Prosecutor Seeks Texas GOP Bank Records
Prosecutor Seeks Texas GOP Bank Records
Friday February 3, 2006 1:31 AM
By JIM VERTUNO
Associated Press Writer

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Prosecutors investigating former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay on felony conspiracy and money laundering charges are seeking bank records for the Texas Republican Party.

District Attorney Ronnie Earle issued a subpoena Thursday ordering Frost Bank to produce monthly statements and signature cards from August 2002 to January 2003 for accounts connected to the party or the Texas Republican Congressional Committee.

DeLay attorney Dick DeGuerin said the subpoenas are not enforceable because the charges are still under appeal.

``There's no setting, no trial, nothing that can be enforced,'' DeGuerin said. ``Whoever gets (the subpoena), they can wad it up and throw them in the trash can.''

1. They wanted it over by January
Well it is now February and it has not even gone to trial. Maybe they can keep this going right up to the election. I am thinking they know how dirty they are, they are just trying to keep a lot of other repugs from being implicated before the election.

3. What are they appealing NOW?
I know they demanded and got a new judge, and that new judge threw out one appeal that the charges were baseless. What it the world is their grounds for appeal THIS TIME?

As to the bank records, that's something that can't be shredded! The bank will always be able to produce them!

4. hmm... If there's nothing to hide, DeGuerin should be all for it, no?

Why even make that suggestion, Mr. DeGuerin? Thought you and your client couldn't wait to clear his good name. Wouldn't access to info, such as the above show the purity and wholesome nature of this great man?

5. funny, u never hear the "liberal" media say anything about
the fact that "if they have nothing to hide, what's the big deal?" just like with the NSA spying, if u have nothing to hide, why worry?

it's a post-9/11 world buddy, prove your innocent otherwise your guilty.

8. They don't have to.....
....If money was transferred there, the bank records he is requesting will show it. That is probably why they are stalling. That's how they got Enron. They may not be able to get the monies, but they can get the information related to it!
