CNN/Reuters: Bolton presides over empty U.N. room
Bolton presides over empty U.N. room
Ambassador finds punctuality not high on colleagues' lists
Thursday, February 2, 2006

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) -- John Bolton, Washington's U.N. ambassador, tried to open his first meeting as head of the Security Council at 10 a.m. sharp on Thursday -- and was irked to find no other diplomats showed up.

"I brought the gavel down at 10. I was the only one in the room," Bolton said. The United States has just assumed the rotating presidency of the 15-nation council for the month of February.

"I believe in discipline. I think daily briefings constitute a form of intellectual discipline. Starting on time is a form of discipline," Bolton told reporters. "I failed today."

"I took a list of when they (council members) came in," Bolton said. "We started just before 10:15."

As part of a plan to modernize council operations, Bolton proposed that ambassadors gather daily at 10 a.m. for a briefing on the latest global political and peacekeeping developments....

different cultures have different concepts of time and the importance of it in daily life. Many cultures find that human interaction is more important then following the western concept of time.

7. Of course, Bolton...
... would never consider that perhaps the other SC members might find his yammering on about what the United States demands of everyone else a bit tiresome, and that they might be a tad unwilling to subject themselves to his sort of "discipline." (After the revelations about Plato's Retreat, there's no telling what that discipline might entail. :) )

51. As if Bolton or the US signs the paychecks of these diplomats
How arrogant! The international system is characterized by anarchy. The diplomats are well within their own national rights to get there when they damn well please. Sounds like that's just what they did and sent Bolton and the US a message at the same time. The message was "Kiss my ass, Ambassador Bolton! Just what the hell are you gonna do about it?"

The UN and other multinational organizations are a way to try to bring order to that anarchy. Bolton is doing an excellent cause of pushing other countries into alliances and multinational organizations. But it sure isn't in a way that does the US a bit of good.

53. war in the common
With peace and justice, human society will naturally invest in itself
to create long term wealth. None of these things is a bush objective,
hence a permanent state of war where bolton can arrive at the security
council and demand the world arrive like servants to massa's table.

War and making war is the only way to usurp the natural cycle of wealth.
And bolton's table is the foundation of all terrorism, good thing al
queda only means foundation in arabic or bolton would be in gitmo.

In future, any smart nation will simply learn from the past 100 years
of policy success and failure worldwide in liberal democracy. The
evolutions have been astounding. And rather than evolve, the empire
wants to make war, to kill all the new sprouts, and leave itself
leader of the world after the nuclear holocaust. These bushian nutters
want to push a nuclear war, to have it out with "evil" in a final
battle once and for all. They really believe4 it will be smart to
fight that battle now, rather than wait 50 years for the islamic
world to arm itself. And what do we get from it... from these assholes
who hyjakked our republic, a huge massive bankruptcy of everything our
entire lives have invested in. The state of the union is bankruptcy,
the president's word is not worth a penny.

56. Demanding ambassadors attend DAILY briefings is power play
and absolutely ridiculous. Can you imagine US Senate committee members (and the most senior ones at that) being ordered to attend a meeting of the same committee every day for "briefings"? What a colossal waste of time! If an emergency comes up, fine - call an emergency meeting. Otherwise, just have Bolton's staff send out emails if and when something of note needs to be circulated.

the UN has been SLOWLY reforming itself since the end of the Cold War. Basically the Bush team has come in and are claimly to have initiated this and to be driving this when it started way before they got involved. The Oil-for-Fodd investigation is the exact same thing.

59. its to turn the UN in to a sham
It is much more degenerate than a power play, it is an attempt to
drive a political wedge in to the UN, where "with us or against us"
is endemic in every meeting, that the war of terror usurup all
civil relations. Then the other nations of the world will look
the other way while the baby temper peters out, and all the while,
the United nations will be sidelined and broken, this being
Bolton's primary objective.

How to diplomat with a wrecker, presuming that it is in your
countries interest to diplomat "around" the bush administration
until the american people can clean up the corruption. So who
to negotiate with when the UN is not working, suddently the only
reasonable figure is condi, if "reasonable" be a word for that.
Then nations who are wise, seeing the UN being wrecked, will
establish an arms length bilateral association, one that
keeps us corporations and armed services away if at all possible.

Bolton's every act is not to show he's a bully, but to completely
destroy the institution's reasonable debate by corrupting its
basis of existance, that the world's people are equal, or at least
a tiny smidgeon of that thinking... something bolton the slave
cannot know.

Bush pulled a sneaky one over on the World by appointing this unqualified person to the UN during a recess. Did he really expect the rest of the World to honor this act?

Bush is a disgrace to America, and he is NOT RESPECTED around the World. By pulling this stunt, he has handicapped America until a legitimate representative of our government is put in this position at the UN.

It's shameful that the American people have been abused and taken advantage of by these Nazis.

WE hate this band of bloodthirsty, money hungry voevods as much as you do. The fact that so many assholes voted these dickheads into office speaks volumes on how bad corporate influence is here. They burrowed right into our tax dollars and gave the common people nothing in return except unemployment, body bags and close to a 10 trillion dollar debt. An obvious message such as this should resonate loudly to them but it won't because they live in an unaccountable teflon bubble.

67. Comes from the early tales of Dracula (Vlad Tepes)

He was referred to as a "voevod" in the woodcuts, which early on meant "prince" or "warrior leader", but later became associated with someone who is a tyrannical bloodthirsty warhawk. Much like these assholes.

66. Take that, you mustachioed little twatmouth WIMP who chases women
up and down hotel halls in foreign countries, throwing shoes at them!

You're a pussy, and they all know it. I guess it's a little easier to bully unprotected women than it is to bully U.N. ambassadors, isn't it?

"I took a list of when they (council members) came in," Bolton said. "
