Witnesses Describe Firings From State Jobs
Md. Democrats Cite Pattern of Dismissals, but GOP Legislators Discredit Testimony

By Matthew Mosk
Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, January 31, 2006; Page B03

As a deputy Cabinet secretary for a Democratic governor and a contributor to the party's gubernatorial candidate, Susan Fernandez said she was hardly surprised to be dismissed when Republican Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. took office in 2003.

But with 18 months to go before retirement, Fernandez said she had hoped to stay on the state's payroll in a lower-level job in another agency. So she took a job with the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services and worked there for a year.

Then Ehrlich aide Joseph Steffen arrived in her department -- the third of four state offices he would work in during his two years on the governor's staff.
"We heard rumors that he carried a list of people they were going to be firing," Fernandez recalled yesterday. "He came to meetings. He watched. He took a few notes."

Two weeks after his arrival, Fernandez was abruptly fired.
(snip/...)

3. tit for tat
They will pay for this kind of despicable crap. No one party stays in power forever, and revenge will be taken.

6. It already IS a crime to be a Democrat!
Why do you think the admin went to the trouble of having the MSM make note of the similarities between OBL's recent threats and the musings of Michael Moore or the complaints of John Kerry.

It's only a matter of time before this admin disappears more Americans by branding them as traitors (using "evidence" so secret that it cannot be disclosed), thus stripping them of their rights and allowing them to be detained indefinitely.

Not even the spirit of Johnny Cochran could help you if nobody knows you're being detained!

7. a pretty clear case of political firings
IF they'd been sneaky enough to simply not send that one guy around with his axe, they may have gotten away with it too, but they were too cocky about it. this part is particularly funny.

"Republican critics of the investigation said they could trust none of the testimony yesterday because the former employees offered little besides their own memories to back up their claims".

8. in Stalinist Russia you had to be a member
of the party to get a job. How far we have come to get to our own dictatorship.
