Dodgeville district firing back over Christmas controversy

The Dodgeville School District, accused in December of launching an "attack on Christmas," has counterattacked the accusers.

In a sharply worded letter from its lawyer, the district this week demanded a widely distributed apology, a retraction of claims the school's policies are "hostile" to the U.S. Constitution, and $23,899.48 in damages from the Liberty Counsel. The Florida-based group grabbed national publicity and solicited donations based on its charge that a Dodgeville elementary school had "decided to eliminate Christmas from the Christmas season."

Good for them! Average citizens who have had it with the Christian Taliban fighting back.

3. The bill must be paid
and if it isn't, send it to a predatory collection agency.

4. Fraudulent soliciting
I wonder if we all gave $5 to these groups who lie in order to fundraise, we could turn around and sue them for fraud and put them out of business permanently. I like this school's appraoch, good for them.

5. Of course they need to pay for the extra costs
the District had to cover just to deal with the flood of threats received (read about that, I believe on Media Matters, back in December) - why should the tax payers - paying for education for the community's kids, foot the bill. This Liberty Counsel spread a false story, hyped it in ways that fueled anger - done so that they could get publicity and get more $$. Good for the district to take this action.
