Video appears to show UK MP with Uday Hussein (Galloway)
http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/europe/01/25/galloway.uday/index.html

A videotape released Wednesday appears to show controversial British politician George Galloway smiling and shaking hands with Uday Hussein, the late son of former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein.

The British Sun newspaper released the video of the 1999 meeting in Baghdad. Galloway was one of the few Western politicians to visit Iraq during the 1990s, drawing widespread criticism at the time.

The trips also fueled suggestions he was benefiting financially from his ties to Saddam Hussein -- allegations he has strenuously denied.

The video emerged just hours before a British court ruled in Galloway's favor in a libel suit involving allegations of wrongdoing.

1. So, what's the big deal? We have video of Rumsfeld visiting with Uday's
father in 1883 and just a year or two ago, we have video of Rumsfeld visiting with Karamav in Uzbekistan, a man some say is worse than Saddam Hussein.

Not that I'm for visiting with dictators. But, for the right to be acting as though this is something they have on him, is a little hypocritical.

2. Whatever you do CNN, don't mention the "Mariam Appeal"
It might make that handshake look pretty insignificant next to the thousands of Iraqis' lives Galloway has saved.

3. I don't think Galloway ever denied working with the regime
He simply states that such work was done to benefit the Iraqi people and that he did not benefit from it financially. That's his story, in any case, so it's not clear to me how this video is supposed to be proof to the contrary. In fact, it's not proof to the contrary. Its only function is to inflame people against Galloway as the libel suit was headed toward success. Since the Sun could not provide evidence to counter the libel suit, they put out this non-probative video in response.

10. The libel suit had nothing to do with the Sun.
Just so you know. It was the Telegraph.

6. I can't believe CNN is reporting on anything "The Sun" is reporting.
"The Sun" is a scandal rag/tabloid. They might as well report on something "The Washington Times" or "The National Enquirer" says.

CNN ha gotten so lame.

7. cnn is a criminal run news org
they belong in prison...annd the frigging hollywood branch of cia can cook up videos of superman leaping tall building etc, a video of Galloway is too easy....i personally know a dozen guys look alot like Sir George; anyone of them would eagerly play him in a bullshit video (for some good dope, or a couple hunded $ bucks...) and this is evidence? cnn proves everyday it is a liar and a seditionist (working against proper public order)...they prove it routinely yet noone wants to do anything to them?

11. Galloway was up in front of the movement against Saddam Hussein
and human rights abuses in the mid 1980s. Saddam - ever the sociopath - flipped him. And since then - Galloway is a man looking for his soul. He still speaks like a man - but he is lost.

Saddam was no boy-scout. 500,000 murdered. That enough for me.

15. Yes, but Galloway did the unthinkable. He spoke out against the regime
here and he made Coleman look like a fool, so that all must be avenged and of course the propaganda machine is the best way to get revenge. Smear campaigning is their MO.

Until there is proof to the contrary, this is what I know so far. Galloway spoke out against Saddam when Bush Sr., Reagan and Rummy, Cheney et al, were arming and funding him. Right now, that same cabal is arming and funding other dictators, who no doubt they will have to 'remove because they are evil' in ten years or so.

Galloway then tried to help the Iraqi people again, during the nineties when the sanctions were killing them. I have no proof so far that he profited from that.

Contrary to what we know about Galloway, we know the Bush regime, Cheney et al, have profited from dealings with Saddam and with the Bin Ladens.

If CNN had mentioned all of this, along with showing the video of Galloway, that would be a different story. And they should also have mentioned how much money HE made as opposed to how much money THEY made from these nefarious dealings. Then the public could decide what they think of it all. But that could only happen if we had a free press.
