Oil jumps back near $68

Crude climbs to 4-month high on Iran, Nigeria supply fears; analysts say further gains likely.

January 20, 2006: 12:01 PM EST

LONDON (Reuters) - Anxiety over supplies from producer countries Iran and Nigeria drove oil prices more than a dollar higher to $68 a barrel on Friday and analysts predicted the market would stay strong for the foreseeable future.

U.S. crude oil for February delivery jumped $1.17 to $68 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, the highest level in nearly four months. <more>

3. Figured this would happen the price at the pump has been going up
so the oil companies have to make some of that money back from the gas stations.

6. It was a "thought process" two-step...
1. oil is going up (fast)
2. fill up your gas tank now

a little too tough for you?

9. Anecdote
The other day, I was outside my apartment block with my bike. As I was pulling off my gloves so I could get my keys, the maintenance man walked by. He said it was pretty chilly for bike riding. But more people will probably be riding bikes with the price of gas rising.

11. Remember gas averaging $3/gal when oil was at $70/bbl?
It's $2.19-$2.39 here.

Goes to show how much gas prices were yanked late last summer on pure speculation and greed.

12. Prices Were High After Katrina Due To Damage To Refining Capacity
Which, yes, resulted in an orgy of rampant speculation and greed. That's capitalism.

When when a Cat. 4 or stronger runs it's surge up the Houston ship canal, knocking offline 40% of the nations refining capacity for a couple of years, we will have the speculation and greed orgy of all time. That is, until petrocollapse sets in a few weeks later.

Rita was a warning. Too bad our 'leadership', and most of the people in this country, have not taken heed.

13. We haven't seen anything yet..
By August crude will be trading between $76 to $80 dollars a barrel and the average price of a gallon of gasoline will be around $3.45 to $3.85 per gallon, that is if we or the Israelis DON'T hit Iran's nuclear facilities.

I just bought $70 August calls and expect to bring back 50 to 100% back to my clients MINIMUM! Speculators do have a hand in the rise of prices, but we base our decisions of supply and demand perceptions at a future point in time. We also help the markets cool down because we also speculate on pricing drops and trade likewise so please don't put price spikes on the market's back, we just respond to world conditions, and act accordingly for the benefit of our clients.

14. Once again you ignore this nation's REAL threat: homosexuality
I can't believe you think the price of oil is more important than a man loving another man!
