Reid says Democrats offer honest leadership

BY HENRY CORDES

WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

Democrats can offer voters in "red" states like Nebraska an alternative to the "Republican culture of corruption" in Washington, U.S. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid

"We believe there should be honest leadership in Washington," Reid told reporters in Omaha, his final stop in a five-state tour of Republican-leaning western states.

1. Well then, he should filibuster Alito.
After all, it's the ONLY honest thing to do.

2. Reid "says"
Frankly, I've had it up to my ears with Reid "says."

How about a little Reid "does."

You want people to elect Dems? Then put some bite into that bark.

3. Well, Reid has been "doing", too.
He handled the Harriet nomination perfectly. Played the Repugs like a fiddle.

He closed down the Senate on the 9/11 commission deal. (Durbin recently promises that they'll do it again, too.)

Reid is doing a good job.

5. "Played the Repugs like a fiddle."
How exactly? I've heard that, but not sure what exactly was accomplished.

Look what we're getting ... the intended nominiee all along imo.

I don't think they were serious about Harriet. That distraction bought some time needed somewhere for something/someone.

I agree with the poster upstream: filibuster Alito.

6. He condemned Miers with faint praise.
I agree with the filibuster, too. But let Reid play his hand the way he sees fit.

Announcing now that he intends to ask the Dems to filibuster would be a colossal faux pas. He'd have the Repugs screaming their heads off. So, he keeps his hand hidden and lets the Repugs guess what's going to happen. If they're going to filibuster, they should wait until the last minute to spring the trap.

Give the man time.

4. my wish is that the Democrats stop accepting corporate PAC $
... end the game as it's played now ... it might set the perfect tone for honest leadership ... imho ... put people first ... for a change ... it's time for a new day ...

8. did you send in your membership dues
to the party? The only way they can stop taking corp funds is people sending in money, maybe not in same high amounts, but each person has to send some, otherwise, you get outspent 90 - 1 from the repukes. (okay, I don't know the odds, I just made up that number, but you get my point.) I know we are all broke all the time, we have to pony up all together to beat the bullies. But unless we can get our airwaves back and have free debate and air time for candidates and stop PAID political ads, we are screwed. It takes money, so give as much as you can. :)
