Scottish Tories helped to convict US lobbyist Abramoff
January 8, 2006

EVIDENCE from Conservative MSPs helped to bring down Jack Abramoff, the American lobbyist on corruption charges.

David McLetchie, the former Scottish Tory leader, and Brian Monteith, were asked by the Crown Office to provide details of a dinner they attended with Abramoff in 2000.

It coincided with a golf trip at St Andrews organised by the lobbyist for Tom DeLay, the former Republican leader of the American House of Representatives and a close ally of George Bush.

Also at the dinner were native American Indian tribesmen with gambling interests. Two months after the trip DeLay voted against legislation that threatened to damage the casino interests of native American Indians, although he denies there was any connection.

5. It's nice that they didn't lie to the Crown Office when deposed.
Edited on Sun Jan-08-06 11:59 AM by 1932
However, I'm not surprised. I suspect they were at the meeting because they're the conservative party in a country located so close to such rich oil fields. However, Scottish conservatives have little power, I'm sure. I can't imagine that they could gain much by lying to the Crown Office. It's safer for them just to tell the truth.

Also, Tory-pimping headline notwithstanding, nobody has been convicted yet. Sounds to me like this paper is trying really hard to ingratiate conservatives on a public they know doesn't like the US Republicann party and might only be convinced to vote for Tories if they can be misled into thinking Tories don't like US Republicans either.

6. Right on both counts
The Conservatives are a marginal force in Scotland (4th place and a staggering ONE MP at the last UK general election), and this story is indeed pure tried and tested Times Tory-pimpery.

8. Why thank you!
Always a pleasure to speak up in support of plain good sense- especially when it relates to those wretched Windsors...

10. I love this part..."Tom DeLay the former Republican leader...
of the American House of Representatives and a close ally of George Bush."

Well now we know Jack Abramoff and DeLay were partners in crime. They are like peanut butter and jelly. If one was in on a deal then the other was too. After all Tom Delay said Abramoff was his "GODFATHER".

But just yesterday, Bush was trying to distance himself from Abramoff. The White House was trying to say that Bush didn't know him. Never really formally met Abramoff. That they were like oil and water, they never mixed.

Now I don't know about you all, but I don't like wind blowing up my ass.

No one on this earth can tell me that President George W. Bush, Jr. has not personally meet Jack Abramoff or in fact had a personal relationship. I'm sure that Jack was invited to the White House many times and probably enjoyed many a cigars with the Chimperor and Tom. I'm sure they sat around smoking those big fat "CUBAN" cigars laughing about how they have fucked many people in the world. All 3 are pigs. No offense to the pigs.
