U.S. Senate approves $369 billion for defense
WASHINGTON, July 17 (Reuters)

The U.S. Senate on Thursday unanimously passed a $369 billion bill to fund the Pentagon after deflecting bids by Democrats to force President George W. Bush to account for costs of the war in Iraq and provide long-term plans to stabilize it.

The Republican-led Senate passed the bill after four days of debate that centered on Democrats' complaints that the United States appears headed toward a long, costly conflict in Iraq because the administration failed to plan adequately ---

1. out of control
I believe we need the strongest military in the world as much as anyone, but we've got to get defense spending under control.

2. $1.2 Billion per day! Big bucks for the bang!
The local Grade School is 61 years old and falling apart. Maybe Halliburton will throw a crumb.

3. 369 billion
The PNACers will say that is not enough. Soon we'll see a bunch of snooty columns from the Heritage foundation saying that defense is being "shortchanged".

5. Strongest power, my ass.
We're in the position of having to call up the National Guard for Iraq, leaving the nation itself undefended except for a lot of high tech overpriced gadgets that may or may not work.

Money ain't gonna help this.

Halliburton and Carlisle are having champagne, though.

Do they still exist? Do they keep an eye on defense contractors or are they irrelevent?

8. Bankruptcy
So it looks like they are trying to bankrupt the country. Will the US need to be bailed out by the IMF?

10. Kucinich's plan looks so good right now...
Reduce defense expenditures by 15% by cutting out Cold War weapons, no "Missile Defense Shield," no weaponization of outer space.

And people say he isn't practical.
