Death threats cut Iraq oil flow
29 December 2005

Iraq's largest oil refinery has been shut down following death threats to tanker drivers, jeopardising supplies of electricity across northern Iraq.

The threats followed a steep rise in the price of petrol earlier this month, ordered by the government.

The oil ministry said the shutdown at Baiji was costing $20m (£12m) a day.

The ministry said it hoped the refinery, which has been out of action since the weekend, would be back up and running within days.

Things seem to be going from bad to worse since that so-called historic election last week.

1. Did Halliburton and the insurgency have an agreement previously?
Since when did the insurgents NOT want to kill...well...anyone even slightly associated with the US?

This doesn't make sense. So everything grinds to a halt because of death threats. Isn't the M.O. of the insurgents to plant a road side bomb and blow up anything with english written on the side driving by it?
Since when did Al Quaeda in Iraq start picking up the phone and start talking smack?

Am I insane or does this smell funny?
