Poll: First lady embraced, president not
Nearly three-quarters have a favorable opinion of Laura Bush

(CNN) -- Far more Americans think highly of first lady Laura Bush than they think of her husband, a poll released Thursday said.

Fewer than half of Americans say they have a favorable opinion of President Bush and his top aides, about the same number who said that last summer, the poll found.

But nearly three out of four (73 percent) said they have a favorable opinion of Laura Bush, the CNN/USA Today/Gallup Poll said. Thirteen percent described their opinion of her as unfavorable.

...

Asked their opinions of the president, 46 percent said they were favorable, a figure statistically equivalent to the 48 percent who gave that response in a July 25-28 poll.

2. Again, you have to wonder who's being polled.
What exactly has Laura done for anyone lately besides stare vacantly and smile woodenly? I pity her, but surely don't embrace her.

Remember how the MSM was all over that "bump" in Shrub's poll numbers when he had a statistically insignificant increase of one-percent a couple of months ago? The shameless whoring continues...

12. Her little katrina photo ops cost people their lives
Due to red cross having to shut down a day while the first lady arrived. What's there to respect? Bush is the injury to this country, SHE is the insult. I've done good things for people too -- you don't see people at this forum running to tell ME I'm so great. The american people in majority do nice things for people -- she's not special because of that. She's just a figurehead.

14. You know, I suspect people just project things on to Laura Bush.
I work for a newswire, and even after hearing Laura Bush speak and the like, she is still pretty much a cipher to me. I have impressions and opinions about various officials, elected and appointed, but still only the vaguest understandng of what Laura Bush is about.

I suspect that non-controversial is good enough for most people and that they just fill in the blanks otherwise. She's not a very public first lady.

By the way, I think she showed some of the famous Bush family ill will when interviewed by Time magazine during the the election of 2004. She was asked about the swift boat ads and opined that she didn't really think they were unfair, because -- wait for it -- her husband had been attacked a "million" times.

But I'll bet good money that Bush's ass never came within a mile of the Mekong Delta.

24. I don't think the pity would be rational.
I am no fan of her personally. I agree that she made a deal with the devil (BFEE).

But I think the (reported) relatively high favorable ratings must reflect something like pity.

34. L.Bush is a viper.
She is equally malicious and dangerous as the senior Bush female and she is the reason America is saddled with this dishonest dry drunk. If she was a good person, would her husband be such a total waste of space? What exactly caused her to "accidentally" kill her ex-boyfriend? The partner one chooses reveals one's deepest values and desires.

May they both be imprisoned together and receive a lovely Ceaucescu moment at the hands of American patriots...

21. Same poll: Bush approval rating at 41%
A CNN/USA Today Gallup Poll, also conducted December 16-18, found Bush's approval rating -- which measures how well the public believes a president is doing his job and is different from his favorability rating -- stood at 41 percent, while more than half, or 56 percent, disapprove of how the president is handling his job.

25. CNN can't be that bad?
Why would a credible news service of ANY kind bother to poll something like this? Are they serious? Maybe they just don't care anymore about appearances.

What precisely is learned, other than suggesting to Chimp that he should send the Lump out more often?

why am I thinking on a picture I saw years ago in a book of Third Reich domestic propaganda, where Hitler is seen tasting the winners? of a some HouseFrau 'bake off'

Three years to go of this shit...? Someone give Bush a blow job, so we can impeach him...

26. The most infuriating thing about it,
I've known people who vote for Bush because they like her. Not that they like W, no, they liked her better than Theresa so they voted for Bush. Again, people who shouldn't be voting because they know nothing about policy.

27. That's just so sad. No wonder we ended up with Bush in the White House.
People have been lulled to sleep. They've been kept totally ignorant of what our Republican Presidents have really been doing to other people, other countries.

I'm certain it's Republicans who've been spreading the lie Republicans and Democrats are the same, or Democrats who haven't been paying attention may be guilty, as well. The upshot is people can't be bothered to think too much about anything.

Ignorance is bliss, right? Very, very sad. When they wake up, it may be too late.

28. Oh for goodness sake she's been the greatest non-entity of a First Lady
that the US has had in a long time. All she does is travel the country shilling her husband's jingoistic and cliched talking points and latching on to a few themes that KKKarl thinks it necessary for a good Republican First Lady. She has no substance. She'd have been better off remaining true to her principles when she worked for Gene McCarthy's campaign in 1968 and not allowing herself to be in the position she is in now

Even Pat Nixon, Nancy Reagan or Barbara Bush had more of a personality as First Lady than this one does

30. Vehicular manslaugther? Doesn't stick to her.
Both my mother (didn't surprize me) and my brother (shocked the hell out of me) were unaware that Laura killed her then boyfriend in a head-on collision. My mother was convinced that the GOP was just and moral, now she's having doubts. My brother detests the conservatives in DC - he lives there.

I wonder how she would poll if people were aware of what she really is - a vapid, privledged non-entity that exists only to provide cover for *.
