(CA Congressman) Sherman makes Iran his mission
Sherman makes Iran his mission

By Lisa Friedman, Washington Bureau
LA Daily News

(snip)

Even for the ever-shticking Sherman, the threat posed by a nuclear Tehran is no joke. In fact, it has become one of his signature issues, leading a top aide on the House International Relations Committee to dub him "Mr. Iran."

While Congress' fears of Iran's nuclear plans have intensified in recent months, particularly in the wake of President Mahmous Ahmadineiad's call for Israel to be wiped off the map, there remains still just a small cadre of lawmakers - Sherman among them - consistently urging the administration to crack down on Iran.

(snip)

Added Bob Einhorn, a veteran diplomat who serves as a senior adviser at the Center for Strategic International Studies in D.C.: "The United States Congress will always play a secondary role (to the administration) on Iran, but a handful of members of Congress who become very knowledgeable can exert a lot of influence on the direction of the administration's thinking.

(snip)

He believes Tehran is six to 10 years away from developing a nuclear weapon, and sees that as one of the greatest threats to U.S. security. He accuses President Bush of having an "ostrich policy" on the issue, and criticized the administration both for dropping U.S. objections to Iran joining the World Trade Organization and for allowing the sale of Boeing parts so Iran can repair its aging commercial fleet.

1. Nukes in the middle east are bad news. We should end military aid to the
only nation in the middle east that has them. Israel.
Nukes anywhere is bad news of course, but we should oppose proliferation. We do have legal duty to do so.

5. A truly nuclear free world would be even better, but I agree with you
both on Israel.

2. I know Sherman is an accountant
from LA just like me. I do like him.

And for the same reasons, I DO NOT trust politicians, I have a problem with this.

I do think Iran may end up as a proxy in a future fight. Make no mistake, the fight is going to be between us and China - fought thru proxies.

I know he has a point about Iran - I know these bastards did us harm in Iraq, other places.

But this is not our fight.

Screw Iran, we have an air force that we all paid a lot of money for.

Isreal, too, better fall in line here. They want to attack Iran - well, they are on their own.

Our interests are in the United States - we paid our debts from the holocost, many times over.

Enough is enough.

Joe

4. Strange little fellow...
With democrats like this, who needs republicans...

Part I don't get is Einhorn's comments?
"a handful of members of Congress who become very knowledgeable can exert a lot of influence on the direction of the administration's thinking."

How do they become knowledgeable? Read and write in Farsi would be a good start, I suppose. But he probably means swallow anything feed to them by the AIPAC
