Judge is shot dead as Iraqis' hatred of occupiers grows
http://news.independent.co.uk/world/middle_east/story.jsp?story=460552

Gunmen shot dead a prominent judge in Mosul in northern Iraq yesterday, a day after another judge was kidnapped and killed in Najaf in the south of the country. snip

But a few miles away lies the scene where a US bulldozer had uprooted part of a grove of orange trees and a few date palms from which American troops had been ambushed a week before. The owner, an ageing sheikh, persuaded them to stop, saying there was no way he could prevent guer- rillas using the trees for cover.

The men gathered in the mourning tent were bitter about the killings but they were almost as angry that nobody in the outside world knew or cared their relatives had been killed. They had made an attempt to tell others what had happened to them since the American-led invasion. Close to the road was a banner in broken English reading: "Them removed the tree and killed the kids, women and elderlies and cracked the houses."

The US army does not keep a count of Iraqi civilians killed in such incidents, but the hostility they create towards the occupation goes a long way to explain why guerrilla war is becoming endemic in this part of the Iraqi countryside.

1. Longer we stay, worse it gets...
The more our soldiers die, the harder we crack down on the populace, the harder we crack down, the more the general populace grows angry with our occupation, the angrier the populace gets, the more American soldiers are going to die... and the cycle continues till we pull out or Baghdad is a sea of glass and burning wreckage.

Hatred.
Grows.
Occupiers.

Those are the words that the Iraqis apply to Americans in their country. Meanwhile, we fret over words like "misleading" and "major combat."

3. These stories could easily come from Occupied Palestine
IDF bulldozes homes, US bulldozes homes. IDF kills rock-throwing children, US kills rock-throwing children. IDF is hated by the Palestinans, US is hated by the Iraqis.

There was one in Najaf killed, and one similar event in al-Basrah recently (though I forget the position). Bad time to be a collaborator, it seems.

Also in Najaf a US-installed puppet mayor was jailed for being a corrupt thug, nicknamed "Saddam II". I posted something on it yesterday morning, probably sank onto LBN's 3rd or 4th page by now.

on edit, here it is (indeed, sunk without comment):--
