Bush Leaves Out the Bad News in Iraqi Poll
Edited on Mon Dec-19-05 04:24 PM by deadparrot
WASHINGTON - President Bush is making selective use of an opinion poll when he tells people that Iraqis are increasingly upbeat.

The same poll that indicated a majority of Iraqis believe their lives are going well also found a majority expressing opposition to the presence of U.S. forces, and less than half saying Iraq is better off now than before the war.

Bush frequently talks in general terms about millions of Iraqis "looking forward to a future with hope and optimism," as he put it in a news conference Monday. The previous evening, he was more specific in his televised address when he declared, "Seven in 10 Iraqis say their lives are going well — and nearly two-thirds expect things to improve even more in the year ahead."

He was referring to an ABC News poll conducted with Time magazine and other media partners before the Iraqi general elections last week. Bush is dismissive of polls that reflect on his own performance, claiming not to pay attention to them.

1. sounds like cherry picking to me........
sorta like pre-war intelligence? for someone who doesn't pay attention to polls, i think he's been on television more in the past couple of months than his entire presidency. this guy is such a joke.

3. He's trying to look good....
but unfortunately, I have already lost all faith in him.

..and if he is going to cherry pick, then he's showing he is fighting a losing battle.

2. because shit head hates the truth...
Among the findings:

_More than two-thirds of Iraqis surveyed face-to-face opposed the U.S. presence, but only one-quarter of respondents wanted American troops to leave right away.

_44 percent said their country is better off than before the war.

_More than six in 10 said they feel safe in their neighborhoods, up from four in 10 in June 2004.

_Half said the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq was wrong, up from 39 percent in February 2004.

_More than two-thirds said they expect things to get better in the coming months.

5. They are good at this sort of thing
Only tell the good news
Only use the positive numbers
The did it in the election here at home
The do it with the economy
They did it with disaster reactions by the government

Then they get the media to help them spread the propaganda.
The media willingly goes along with this bull shit, they are the ones at fault here. Yes the bu$h regime is totally corrupt and needs to be locked up for a very long time. But there should be some media moguls that sit there and rot right beside bu$h, cheney and Rove.

Use only positive numbers-- make people feel comforted.
Then when someone tries to correct by giving the accompanying negative numbers they call people defeatists.
And, people will go along with his whole "Debbie Downer" scenario because one traditional role of the president is to make people feel better.

6. funny: gallup & coalition polls same in 2004
Around the time abu ghraib broke, separate gallup and coalition provisional authority polls showed that overwhelming majority of iraqis wanted us to leave after january 05 elections at the LATEST.

They didn't get the play they deserved, especially not this kind of side by side comparison to Bush's BS.

If they had, it would have beeb hard to get re-elected (or have the race rejiggered as is more likely).

9. Don't trust him!
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 04:01 AM by InsanityInc
Not one damned word he says. He is a liar and he is so damned full of it he doesn't know where the lies stop and the truth begins. I listened to all that garbage when my bother was over there. Heard the press and the media garbage about how they want us over there. Well if they want us over there why are Americans dying? If we've won in Iraq since Saddam isn't in power why the fuck are we still over there? If the mission was accomplished when he said it was my brother would still be alive! He's a jackass and I hate him !

11. ive seen it first hand
Its very simple, the people of iraq just want to live their lives, and they cant do that with us all up in their business. it doesnt make them all terrorists because they want us gone, it just makes them human. in my opinion, according to what i saw, despite what the president tells you, the people over there just want us out of there asap. the president can cherry pick all he wants but he cant fool me.

More than half prefer Saddam to Smirk. Damning. The. Worst. President. Ever.

When you finish behind Saddam Hussein, you're really working overtime to be an asshole.
