Explosions hit US compound in Baghdad (Hit main CPA Building)
Edited on Tue Nov-04-03 02:15 PM by Billy_Pilgrim
Indian TV Reports

Tuesday, November 4, 2003 (Baghdad):

Huge explosions rocked central Baghdad late today and smoke could be seen rising from the compound used as headquarters of the US occupation.

Four large explosions could be heard at about 7:45 pm and smoke could be seen emanating from the northern end of the sprawling US compound near the al-Jamhuriya Bridge, which crosses the Tigris.

An Iraqi security guard added that at least two mortars landed inside the compound.

The military compound is the headquarters of the US civilian administrator in Iraq, Paul Bremer, and is the former presidential palace of Saddam Hussein.

Witnesses told Reuters that three of the blasts occurred inside the compound. Military officials also confirmed to Fox News that there was smoke emanating from the main Coalition Provisional Authority building.

Baghdad: Headquarters of U.S.-led occupation under mortar attack, at least four wounded
04-11-2003, 19:02

Iraqi resistance fighters fired mortars Tuesday night into the "Green Zone," the highly guarded headquarters area of the U.S.-led occupation, injuring at least four people.

Four large blasts could be heard about 7:45 p.m., and smoke could be seen rising from the northern end of the one-square-mile zone near the al-Jamhuriya Bridge over the Tigris River.

At the Pentagon, spokesman Lt. Col. Jim Cassella said four people were injured in the attacks. According to The AP, the U.S.-led coalition said in a statement that "two projectiles were launched" in central Baghdad and that "there is no damage and no casualties at (coalition) headquarters."

11. I Suspect They've Been Honing Their Skills the Past Couple of
of nights.

It would be interesting to know if the mortars came from different directions each night.

The past two nights might have been practice of sorts. They now know they can accurately hit the CPA. They have the coordinates and they know they are accurate now. I suspect we might see a major bombardment coming from several directions at once within the next few nights.

They've been pinpointing range and accuracy.

If they past two nights came from different directions that would be very bad. I would expect a major barrage soon from multiple directions using the info they gained from the past two nights.

15. Canadian reports no injuries, ME media reporting 4...
There's still controlled press access there and it will be interesting to see what the real damage is/was.

I hope no one was seriously injured. If they weren't there, it wouldn't have happened. Simplistic but true.

10. Four Wounded in Baghdad Blasts on U.S. HQ
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20031104/ts_nm/iraq_blasts_dc_9

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Insurgents fired several mortars or rockets at the U.S.-led administration headquarters in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Tuesday evening, wounding four people in the second brazen attack on the compound in as many nights.

The explosions boomed across Baghdad, easily felt by Reuters reporters staying in a hotel across the river Tigris. The Pentagon (news - web sites) said three of the wounded were from the U.S.-occupation forces, although it was not known if they were military or civilian.

An Iraqi guard at the scene said three explosions hit the compound itself, one of Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s former palace complexes, but a U.S. army spokesman in Baghdad could not confirm that.

"There were three explosions in central Baghdad but we don't know where. There are four reported wounded," said the spokesman.

<snip>At least four US soldiers have been wounded in the latest resistance attacks to strike the heart of the occupation authority in the Iraqi capital.

Four loud explosions apparently caused by rocket fire shook central Baghdad around 7:45pm (18:45 GMT on Tuesday, said Aljazeera's correspondent.

Three targeted the main US compound located in the former presidential palace complex in al-Karkh district of Baghdad.

Four US soldiers have reportedly been wounded in the compound attacks.

“A fourth rocket was launched at the US base in al-Mahdiya quarter in al-Dura district," said Aljazeera's Biba Wild Mahadi. "Between 20 to 50 US vehicles were deployed to the scene of the explosion."

Eyewitnesses said a bomb car had detonated in al-Saydiah district, he added.

....sounds like some good aim! Are you awake bremer?!?

22. South African News Reports: Three blasts inside US compound in Baghdad
Three blasts inside US compound in Baghdad
November 04, 2003, 08:59 PM

Several loud explosions rocked central Baghdad this evening, with three coming from the compound where the US-led administration has its headquarters in the Iraqi capital, a guard on the scene said.

Four persons were wounded in an apparent mortar or missile attack near the US-led coalition compound. US troops in Humvees with powerful spotlights sped to an area near the nearby Tigris river, where several shots of gunfire were heard.

"There were a lot of soldiers running around, there was a lot of panic. I haven't seen any injured people," said Mohammad Shikri, an Iraqi guard at the complex, said.

Journalists were prevented from entering the area, inside one of Saddam Hussein's former palace complexes. In Washington, James Cassella, a Pentagon spokesperson, said preliminary reports were unclear on the location of the blasts. He said initial reports suggest they might have been caused by projectiles such as a missile or mortar fire and not a car or truck bomb, but that was not certain.
