Deadly violence returns to Iraq
BAGHDAD (AFP) - At least 13 Iraqis were killed as violence picked up while Sunni and Shiite politicians appealed for unity in government following a landmark election conducted in relative peace.

Eight security force personel were among those shot dead or blown up in a string of attacks in or north of the capital since late Saturday.

Gunmen killed Dhiab Hamad al-Hamdani and his son Munah, the uncle and nephew of a Kurdish party leader in the disputed oil city of Kirkuk, police said Sunday.

Ali Karim al-Assadi, a Shiite member of the Badr Organisation, the former military wing of the Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq, was shot dead in Baghdad, a security source said.

8. Each program was a very distorted presentation
Edited on Sun Dec-18-05 09:53 AM by teryang
First of all there was an attempt to justify American participation in the slaughter during the Saddam era both internally in Iraq and in the Iran-Iraq war. That war was presented as a result of Iranian fanaticism which justified American arming of Iraq with advanced military features and weapons of mass destruction. Then the second broadcast moved into the discussion of preparation and contingency plans for war on Iran. On the Iraq program, the efforts of police commandos and Kurdish special forces were presented as a big political success although the ethnic identity of units was not discussed. Also, the popular tv program in which the prisoners of these units obviously had been tortured and abused was described as a "great success" although there were some civil rights shortcomings. A platitudinous attempt was made to justify the torture induced confessions.

There was another tiny little footnote in the Iran program, such as the admission by the brigadier general "expert" commentator that we really couldn't be sure of taking out all the necessary "nuclear" targets in Iran because it wasn't clear we knew where they were. Apparently, this is having no impact on military preparations for wholesale attacks on Iran by the American military.

I presume from the coordinated anti-Iranian propaganda effort that the media are preparing the American public for an expansion of warfare in the middle east to Iran. There was one caveat, that the military expert mentioned. He said that people need to consider whether we are prepared for terrorist bombings every thirty minutes after any planned aggression against Iraq. He said that Iranian armed forces are no match for American forces but that their unconventional warfare would be effective and a very serious threat. More serious than what we have seen thus far in Iraq. Something to think about.

Col. Steel the advisor to the butchers of El Salvador was another of the expert American commentators on the success of our policies in Iraq. Vietnamization was discussed as the successful model for anti insurgency in Iraq. The failure of that program was not discussed.

10. oh my god
That is some very serious propaganda. Holy shit! The Lincoln/Rendon grouops are apparently using the History/Military channels for the neocon's grand scheme. I truly despair sometimes and this is one of those times. Thank you for the detailed recap teryang.

9. But...but...but.....
this can't be. I saw the purple fingers. I thought everything would be hunky-dory after the third, fourth election (how many have there been now?). Guess we'll have to have some more "elections" and some more Bush propaganda.
