Judge orders jail for man who ran porn site with war dead photos
The man who runs a pornographic Web site that includes pictures of Iraqi war dead is back in jail for operating the site as he awaits trial on obscenity charges.

Prosecutors argued Friday that Chris Wilson, a 28-year-old former policeman from Lakeland, violated his pretrial release by allowing new sexually explicit pictures to be put up on the site, said Chip Thullbery, administrative assistant state attorney. Wilson removed the sexual photos and videos from his Web site several weeks ago when he was told that was a problem, said Larry Walters, Wilson's lawyer.

"Apparently that wasn't good enough for the state or sufficient for the judge," he said.

.......

His site made national news and launched a Pentagon investigation into how war zone photos of charred and dismembered bodies described as victims of U.S. attacks could have surfaced. Police said none of the charges are related to the corpse photos, which Wilson has said he received from soldiers overseas who had trouble paying to access his site.

1. Mixed feelings on this one. . .
Edited on Sat Dec-17-05 05:39 PM by wndycty
1) Its outrageously disgusting and offensive for him to have run the site, but I'm not sure what law he broke. The soliders who sent the pics could get in trouble for violating the Geneva Convention (is that possible).

2) Regardless of whether or not he should have been charged in the first place, he definately should be jailed for violating a court order.

they usually take you to someone's hosted archive. what DO you make of it?

part of me wants to think the soldiers want people to see what it's "really" like.
and part of me sees that their intent isn't how awful it is. rather, there's a counting coup vibe. like who can prove the most depraved experience. then i'm like, shit -- it'd be difficult not to think that in the vacuum of authority out there.

regardless of trying to get inside the head of these kids, the images themselves can't/shouldn't be censored. the fact that there's a witch hunt about it is what makes my knees knock. it's almost like they are forcing this porn lens on the phenomena which makes you wonder 'what THAT reasoning is all about': the legal establishment says people are 'getting off' on death pics? and therefore they must be put in jail? i've only heard of people getting off on such things from tv shows and rob zombie movies.

i think the photos are out there and will continue to be out there as long as the war is on. duh.

there's no "content" provision of freedom of speech. the government doesn't give a shit about the dignity of the dead. they return their own soldiers as FREIGHT. fuck.

these images are damaging to the 'war effort' b/c they show the truth of what it has become: a great big ROB ZOMBIE MOVIE.

4. Wow
Can someone explain why its acceptable to call me a neocon just because I'm not sure if a law was initially broken?

7. I support an Iraqi war veteran in the IL 6th CD
Who is backed by Rahm Emanuel, Dick Durbin and others. She is running against a former Dean Dozen member who is ran in 2004 and got 44% of the vote and is very antiwar. My support of the vet (Tammy Duckworth) has earned me the title of Neocon, even though Duckworth came out today and said the war in Iraq was a mistake.

11. What law did he break?
If porn is against the law, the arrest everybody selling it, including the porn shops.

This is obviously a case where he is getting punished for showing a side of the war we're not supposed to be. It's purely political. He should sue.

12. If war is porn, doesn't that make Bush the pornographer?
I'd love to see some enterprising DA go after Bush on obscenity charges.
