Bush Administration May Affect Elections, DeMint Says (Update1)

Dec. 15 (Bloomberg) -- A ``risk-averse'' Bush administration may cost Republicans control of Congress next year unless the White House embraces ``bold inspirational ideas'' such as overhauling the tax code, South Carolina Republican Senator Jim DeMint said.

DeMint said White House and Treasury Department officials are resisting proposals to replace the income tax with a consumption-based system because they fear the political repercussions. That timidity may cause the Republican Party to lose congressional seats in the 2006 midterm elections, he said.

``If we don't go out with bold inspirational ideas and convince the American people that we're going to make the future better than today, I think we're going to lose big time,'' DeMint, 54, said in an interview. ``The only thing we've got going for us is that the Democrats are completely hopeless.''

The Bush administration has decided not to act next year on an advisory panel's recommendations for a fundamental overhaul of the tax code, people familiar with the matter said. The delay comes after a push earlier this year to restructure Social Security was abandoned when it lost favor with voters despite a 60-day campaign by President George W. Bush to generate support.

1. A bold "good" idea would be nice
Currently the repubs can pull off the good part.

4. Their present strategy:
Keep saying and keep their lickspittles saying the Dems are hopeless.

Way it seems to me is that the Dems done fucked their shiznit up a lot lately...Not a perfect record, but enough to reveal the repukes in all their non-glory.

6. DeMint is just stating the obvious.
Trust me. DeMint is no friend of Democrats. He's just trying to distance himself from a failed administration.

``If we don't go out with bold inspirational ideas and convince the American people that we're going to make the future better than today, I think we're going to lose big time,'' HOWARD DEAN said in an interview. ``The only thing we've got going for us is that the REPUBLICANS are completely hopeless.''

I think this would be closer to the truth than what DeMint said... If we want to kick some serious GOP ass in 2006, we need 1) continued strong leadership (Dean, Piloski, et al), not too hard, not too soft. Just constant building pressure 2) to expose the "culture of corruption" ... we need to link it all together and show the public just how corrupt this bunch of yahoos is 3) most importantly, an actual, honest-to-God PLAN for how we will help the average American and make his or her life BETTER. We can show how the GOoPers lied through their ass on the Contract With America and propose our own sensible alternatives. I think the best issues would be an energy plan developed with the goal of ending foreign oil dependence, personal accountability and privacy (i.e. keep government out of the bedroom and situations like Terry Schiavo) and getting jobs back to America (Infrastructure is one big way IMO).

(/rant)

If we frame these issues, keep up the energy and momentum, and dont let these slimy GOoPers off the hook, we will have a very Merry 2006!

11. Bold idea: outsource EPA function thru no bid contract to Halliburton
MSM lapdops probably wimper meekly here. Do Americans even understand the EPA? Would the DLC call for a bid process instead?
