Poll suggests Bush’s free-fall appears to be over
But majority still down on his performance, NBC-Wall St. Journal poll finds

Since his second inauguration in January, President Bush has seen a steady decline in his overall job performance, the economy, and Iraq. But the free-fall appears to be over, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

For the first time in months, Bush’s job approval has increased, albeit by one point. In addition, as elections take place Thursday in Iraq, Americans are more confident about success there than they were a month ago. And an overwhelming majority backs Bush’s stance that the United States should not immediately withdraw all of its troops from Iraq.

That’s the good news for the administration. The bad news is that strong majorities still disapprove of Bush and his handling of key issues. “Clearly, the president is better off,” said Democratic pollster Peter D. Hart, who conducted this survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff. “He’s not really in good health, but he is no longer hemorrhaging.”

McInturff compares Bush’s standing to someone who has been sliding down a mountain, but who finally gained a foothold to stop the fall. And he says that alone is a positive development for the president. “You can’t get better until you stop the bad numbers,” McInturff said.

16. This is bunk...
They trot out higher poll numbers to make the sheeple think that he is actually accepted by portions of the electorate that actually don't support him. His numbers go up because of statistical manipulation and nothing else. The world hates the usurper and I agree with the world, not his bogus poll numbers. Get over the enfatuation with numbers already, he is a loser and will remain such. George W. Bush has trashed your reputation AMERICA, you look foolish if you buy into this latest lie that he is "popular"... he such an asshole.

10. A tiny blip does not make a recovery.
Bush has many travails ahead, some of which will make his current troubles seem easy:

Abramoff (has already resulted in the arrest of his budget director). Many more surprises to come.

Rove's indictment

Possibly more direct links to Traitorgate (Novak is hinting that Bush is obstructing justice).

Increasing troubles for his cronies in Congress (DeLay, Frist, and 60 Abramoff targets).

This situation is like Bush clinging to a little plant growing from the cliff, and the roots are pulling loose. Once he's no longer "connected at the roots" to terra firma, buh-bye.

34. It's the economy folks....
they have built this nice little house of cards with the economy. The MSM reports the economy just like they do the politics through the corporate filter. I think THAT will be the straw that breaks the camel's back. We are so screwed economically and most aren't even aware of it yet. Wait till that info soaks in....
I also really question these numbers. They are historically low. The GOP knows this and are scared shit-less about the 06 elections (NEXT YEAR).

one point given the margin of error is plus-minus 3.1 percent. To say the bush/media spin is desperate is an understatement.

Edited on Thu Dec-15-05 09:54 AM by bunkerbuster1
like the Phoenix, we have our pink-tutu Dems to thank.

Thanks for being total wusses and not keeping your foot on his throat when you had him pinned!

Thanks for getting all askairt and saying "Howard Dean doesn't speak for me" when the one Dem in a prominant, MSM-visible position to articulate our disgust had the balls to say what was on everyone's mind.

Thanks for pitching our prospects for re-taking this country from the Fascists in 2006 right into the crapper.

Like I said, "If." This bottoming out might be illusory. But I got a bad feeling about this. I think his "strategery" of doing the stupid speeches prior to the Iraq election will produce the illusion of a good outcome, and Americans will forget that they've squandered hundreds of billions of dollars on this idiotic venture, because the corporate media wants so very much for Chimpy to be the Comeback Kid.

Sorry for being a downer. The weather sucks in ATL today.

23. Awwwww.
bunkerbuster, don't be so upset. It's a one-point increase over last month. It's well within the margin of error. It's a statistical blip. The headlines are being manipulated.

Every time Bush gives another lame speech, he's just reminding Americans of what a bumbling, cocky jackass he is. If I were Rove, I would have just hidden him away until the spring.

Wait until us folks up north open our credit card bills at the end of the month, followed by our heating bills.

And, you know, we're on Election #4 in Iraq. Did the first three elections help to reduce or curtail the violence? Unless our soldiers are coming home in the next few weeks, I don't see Bush's numbers going above 43% approval. Ever.

Have a cup of eggnog, my friend. :-)

I however, think that number is much lower than 39%. Maybe like 34%.

28. This is all petroleum-related.
Bush may celebrate, and clink his champagne glass with Karl Rove. But the fact is, Bush is rebounding only because gas prices have come down a bit.

People still despise the man just as much, but life is a little bit more livable now.

Just wait until the giant oil field in Kuwait sputters out its last drops. Watch the noose come out for Bush. And he knows it. That's why he looks like crap, can't make 1 clear sentence.

29. The free fall will resume when:
Fitz makes his next indictment.

The Iraqi insurgents continue after the election.

No real evidence of an effective Iraqi government appears after the election.

The Dems start an effective 2006 campaign, based on: Iraq, phony economy, Katrina failure, failure to implement 9/11 commission recommendations.

etc.

The Coward can do nothing about any of these issues. He no longer has adequate credibility.
