Frist predicts 'deal' on anti-torture plan
He says the White House, Senate will reach an 'understanding' on interrogations

Associated Press

WASHINGTON - The Senate and the White House will reach agreement on a proposal to ban the use of torture in gaining information from suspected terrorists, Majority Leader Bill Frist predicted on Sunday.

The ban's sponsor, Sen. John McCain, has said he would refuse to yield on his demands that the Bush administration agree with his plan, which passed the Senate by a 90-9 vote.

The administration says the United States does not torture and follows international conventions on the treatment of prisoners. But the White House is wary of restrictions that might prevent interrogators from gaining information vital to the nation's security.

"I think that there will be — you say a deal," Frist told Fox News Sunday.

"I think there will be clarification of what we mean. How aggressive can one be to get information — not torture, but, you know, what does degrading mean? Do you not want to degrade a terrorist — not hurt them, but degrade them — if they're going to take out your family, if they're going to assassinate you? That's the question that's being worked out," said Frist, R-Tenn.

3. Here's a deal, Bill:
Whatever methods that come up you consider "not degrading", do a demonstration of it on the Senate floor.

redefine torture as mere 'degradation' and you still get to use the humiliating tactics that particularly inflame and shame your captives..

5. Frist is STILL dissecting cats . . . cats procured from the ASPCA . . .

Frist is STILL dissecting cats . . . cats procured from the ASPCA. What can you expect from a guy like this? A "deal" on human torture? How can anyone "deal" about human torture? What an *ss. A complete *ss.

(Frist) went on to describe why he conducted animal experiments: "It can even be beautiful and thrilling work, as I discovered that day in the lab when I first saw the wonderful workings of a dog's heart.... I spent days and nights on end in the lab, taking the hearts out of cats, dissecting each heart, suspending a strip of tiny muscle that attaches the mitral valve to the inner wall of the cat heart and recording the effects of various medicines I added to the bath surrounding the muscle." "I lost my supply of cats. I only had six weeks to complete my project before I resumed my clinical rotations. Desperate, obsessed with my work, I visited the various animal shelters in the Boston suburbs, collecting cats ....It was a heinous and dishonest thing to do."

What a lovely guy, now "dealing" in human torture!
