New Orleanians Plan March On Washington
“Help Americans Help Themselves-Rebuild the Levees in New Orleans”

http://www.nola.com/newslogs/hurricanehelp/index.ssf?/mtlogs/nola_hurricanehelpcenter/archives/2005_12.html#099097

Frustrated by the slow pace of the federal government’s response, Shawna Doremus and Judith Kaufman, both New Orleanians displaced in Pittsburgh, have planned a rally in the nation’s capital on Wednesday, December 14, 2005.

”New Orleans is one of America’s most unique cities, and it is heartbreaking to see the city struggling to get back on it’s feet,” said Doremus. “We are Americans, we are taxpayers, and Judy and I both personally represent small businesses. We are asking Congress to just help us help ourselves recover. Planning this rally is one small way for us to contribute to the rebirth of New Orleans from afar.”

The goal of the rally is to increase awareness and political pressure regarding the urgent need to rebuild the levee system and ensure the citizens and businesses of New Orleans that it is safe to return home and rebuild. The goal of the rally is to pressure the President to keep his commitment “to rebuild New Orleans and the Gulf Coast.” Similarly, the rally will call on Congress to take real action before adjourning for the holiday recess.

4. They've got Rep. Cynthia McKinney and she's worth 100 others -
the Dems did not assign her to do anything re: Katrina survivors, but she was interviewed last night on Laura Flanders and, if I understood correctly, McKinney is the person who pushed for the Congressional hearings for the Surivors that happened last week so that their testimony would become part of the *official record*. That was the testimony in which Dyan French said she heard explosions at the levee and believes it was bombed.

Someone around here has a picture of McKinney drinking out of a coffee cup. On the cup is written "Uppity Negro" -- so, apparently, one uppity negro is worth at least 100 of those other butt-kissing, know-nothing, gutless wonders on the Hill. (I have in mind people like Dick Gephardt, Evan Bayh, Diane Fienstein, Joe Fibberman...).

McKinney Gets the "Courage of Her Convictions" Award of the Decade! Fighter of Election Fraud! Defender of Civil Rights! Investigator of "That Which Cannot Be Discussed"!

This is about the government by the people FOR the people abandoning those very people.
It represents the government abandoning all of us. At least those of us who are unable to pay the politicians off.

3. It is a disgrace
that citizens of our country are being treated with such disrespect and arrogant ignorance. I can't help but think that there is a grand plan for the privatization of NO. Asphalt and high rises on the "safe ground". The soul of the city will be lost forever. The people are the most important ingredient in it's atmosphere and culture.

10. there doesn't seem to be such a plan
if there be such a plan, why aren't they giving us cat 5 levee protection?

rich people expect to be kept safe

the plan at the moment, on a federal level at least, appears to be that they'll take our oil, they'll take the products of our chemical plants and our refineries, and then they'll shit on us as beneath the contempt of "real" people who do not dirty their hands w. the hard work of the world

7. Perhaps some of the New Orleans Saints football team could join them
It would help make the march even more visible, and to varying degrees, the life of every Saints player and coach and support staff member has been touched by the devastation of the Gulf Coast.
