U.S. Helps Some Iran-Backed Terror
December 08, 2005

BAGHDAD, Dec 8 (IPS) - After the U.S. forces and the bombings, Iraqis are coming to fear those bands of men in masks who seem to operate with the Iraqi police.

Omar Ahmed's family learnt what it can mean to run into the police, their supposed protectors.

Omar was driving with two friends in the Adhamiya district of Baghdad at night Sep. 1 when they were stopped at a police checkpoint.

"The three of them were arrested by the police even though there was nothing in the car," an eyewitness told IPS, speaking on condition of anonymity.

They did not return home for days, and the family began to search the morgues, common practice now when someone is arrested by the Iraqi police and does not return.

"Five days after they were arrested we found Omar's body in the freezer in a morgue, with holes in the side of his head and shoulders," a friend of the family told IPS.

"We don't know if the other two men are dead or alive," he said. "But we know these men were guilty of nothing other than driving their car at night. We have no security and the problem is that police are killing and disappearing the Iraqi people every day now."

The 'death squads' as they have come to be called are getting more active with just a week to go before the Dec. 15 election.

Isn't this the sort of thing that we got rid of Saddam for?

1. See, this is the good kind of anti-terror kidnapping and beatings;
Saddam was doing the bad kind.

Right?

(I'll lie down now, this much spin makes me dizzy)

3. We should make a DVD of them
and send them to George Bush. I'm sure he never looks at the results of his deeds.

4. What did G.H.W. Bush, Sr promise the Iranians in Madrid in 1980?

GB: "Okay, Manoucher, your friends hold onto the hostages until after the November elections, and in return, we'll overthrow the Sunnis and your people can have southern Iraq. That might take some time,of course, but both our organizations make long-term plans."

MG: "Throw in some missiles, and a cake and you have a deal, George. Oh, before I forget, my other friends -- the ones in Jeddah -- say hello. They'd like me to pick up the tab for this lunch, and gave me a new credit card for that. Let's see, Bank of Credit and Commerce International. What can they do for you in Nicaragua?"

affair. Let's see, Michael Ledeen and Dewey Claridge have their fingerprints on that, again, as well.

They all must really like cake.

7. The US always tries justifying itself ...
but the arguments are weak. Look at our actions in Vietnam and the death squads in Latin America under previous US Administrations. Look at how we took Pinochet under are wing. Look at the way we harbor Cuban terrorists.

At least during the Vietnam era there was a successful attempt by many to reflect on the actions of our nation. Today, there is also a voice, but we are fighting a US-state-and-corporate-controlled media. They serve as accomplices for this Administration. It really is a misnomer to call them the MSM.

What amazes me is how lacking in knowledge many right-wing bloggers have of not only the history of their own nation, but they really have no concept at all of the historical aspects of Iraq. The Chimpy-in-Chief Administration did have an idea of the historical struggles of various people in Iraq, but they chose to ignore them. In short, they simply didn't and don't care. They sensed that there could be a civil war and strife in Iraq, but they want/wanted to put in place under the disguise of bringing democracy to Iraq, another leader/leaders that in fact will be as tyrannical as Saddam. Now, you will have a willing US-media that will place these leaders in the light that they're trying to improve Iraq, while all the time these leaders in Iraq will being using the same tried and tested methods of the past.

There is one glaring scenario that was not factored in this Iraq fiasco, which is unlike the meddling in Iraq affairs during the early 60's and 80's, i.e. a growing Islamist movement more determined to strike at US interests and a really pissed off and isolated Sunni sect.

If anyone thinks that this problem will just simply dissolve over time, without factoring in a drastic change in US policy, they're simply deluding themselves.
