Gunmen storm Allawi's office

Baghdad - Gunmen stormed on Thursday an office belonging to the Iraqi National Reconciliation Movement headed by former premier Iyad Allawi and set it ablaze.

Witnesses told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa that gunmen attacked Allawi's office in Western Karbala, 100km south of Baghdad, fired shots and torched the building.

Allawi, who's heading an Iraqi slate in the legislative elections due next week, was recently attacked by hardline Shiites carrying knives and guns during his campaign in the Shi'a city of Najaf, 180km south of Baghdad. - Sapa-dpa
