N.Y. Philanthropist's Plane Goes Missing
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/nation/3497585.html

A plane piloted by a well-known New York philanthropist went missing off the coast of Nantucket on Thursday afternoon, his wife and federal authorities said.

George F. Baker III, 66, was believed to be the only person on board.

The twin-engine Beechcraft took off from Teterboro Airport in New Jersey and was about 2 1/2 miles from Nantucket Memorial Airport when it disappeared from radar.

Baker is the senior trustee for the George F. Baker Trust, established through the will of his grandfather in 1937. The trust gives charitable gifts to medical and educational organizations, according to Rocio Suarez, executive director of the trust. Baker's great-grandfather, banker George F. Baker, donated money to build the Harvard Business School.

I see that the George F. Baker who died in the 30s was a former GE Director.

8. Found this on the GE website:

Note the "Customer" phraseology in the link. Nomenclature is elucidating.

6. Probably not the same George Baker III. . .
as the dead one lived in Nantucket, while this one teaches middle school science in Tulsa. Could be wrong, though. He could have been a serious commuter.

The twin-engine Beechcraft was flying at an altitude of 200 feet and was about 2 1/2 miles from Nantucket Memorial Airport when it disappeared from radar around 4:45 p.m., said Jim Peters, an FAA spokesman.

The plan was en route from Teterboro Airport in New Jersey, Peters said. The pilot filed a flight plan through the Islip Flight Service Station, Peters said

He said the pilot spoke to FAA air traffic controllers at Otis Air Force Base on Cape Cod shortly before the plane disappeared. The plane already had been cleared to land at the Nantucket airport, and the pilot did not issue a distress signal.

The Coast Guard was searching for the plane. Coast Guard spokeswoman Kelly Newlin said there was no immediate sign of any wreckage in the water or on land, although police told the Coast Guard they saw a red light in the water near the airport's runway.

9. Here is one of his donations
To be fair, the newsmeat link does show a few dems on his donation list but this entry shows quite a huge amount given to chimp..the majority of the rest entries are for repukes ($1000-$2000 at a time, no where near this $15,000). Dates/donations go back to chimp's father's election.

11. His grandfather was the Morgan Bank guy
A primary donation to Schumer doesn't mean alot, could mean they thought he'd be the easiest to beat. And the Texas Dems? Don't know what that could mean. Also don't know when his grandfather died and he took over the trust. It is weird that all these Bush people end up dead under nefarious circumstances though.

13. Has anyone read Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged"?
This is how they got away! Flew into a hidden canyon....

("they" being the capitalists and people of principle who stoked the author's imagination. Philanthropists, though? Here the two part ways, in A.R.'s terms)

16. not to be nitpicky or anything,
but can we just as well say 'philanthropist's plane IS missing'? this 'went missing' and 'goes missing' stuff has got to end!

btw, not on your case, rainbow, as the article itself uses the ubiquitous 'went missing'.........
