FORT CAMPBELL -- A soldier accused of opening fire on fellow soldiers who were doing physical training has been charged with attempted murder, Fort Campbell said yesterday.

Pvt. Nicholas D. Mikel, 21, was accused of firing five shots into the group of soldiers on Oct. 13, but no one was injured. Mikel, of DeBary, Fla., joined the Army in October 2003, said Fort Campbell spokeswoman Cathy Gramling.

She declined to comment on a possible motive for the shooting.

"That would be speculation, and we can't speculate on the case," she said.
