German anti-terrorist agents in Iraq: report
Berlin - An elite German anti-terrorist unit is currently in Iraq to protect a team of experts sent by Berlin to help rebuild a distribution network for drinking water, Der Spiegel magazine reported its Monday edition.

Germany fiercely opposed the US-led war to oust Saddam Hussein and has so far firmly rejected requests from Washington to send any kind of armed presence to the war-shattered country.

An interior ministry spokesman confirmed on Saturday that there were "specially qualified police" in Iraq to protect the experts, but declined to give any further detail for security reasons.
