Iranian president calls for war crimes charges on US
ran’s hard-line president called for the Bush administration to be tried on war crimes charges related to Iraq and denounced the West for its stance on Iran’s controversial nuclear programme, state-run television reported today.

“You, who have used nuclear weapons against innocent people, who have used uranium ordnance in Iraq should be tried as war criminals in courts,” Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in an apparent reference to the US.

Ahmadinejad didn’t elaborate, but he was apparently referring to the US military’s use of artillery shells packed with depleted uranium, which is far less radioactive than natural uranium and is left over from the process of enriching uranium for use as nuclear fuel.

Since the 2003 start of the Iraq war, US forces have reportedly fired at least 120 tons of shells packed with depleted uranium, which is an extremely dense material used by the US and British militaries for tank armour and armour-piercing weapons. Once fired, the shells melt, vaporise and turn to dust.

3. Actually, I believe
It's "our" own damn fault. Who are these "insurgents"? I think they are Iraqis trying to get their country back from us. These religious factions have been fighting for centuries and should be allowed to sort it all out by themselves. This will happen, with or without us. If we pull out now, it will happen now. If we pull out in 20 years, it will happen then.

I think Bush and his cronies are just asking to be charged with war crimes.

18. Ooooo, the uranium boogyman. Be afraid, be very afraid.
Uranium and plutonium are far more dangerous because of they being being heavy metals than because of radiation. The Iranian President is taking advantage of the same paranoid misconceptions about uranium and plutonium (the crazies predicting death and distruction from the Cassini launch, for example) that the anti-nuclear energy people spew. they ore only slightly radioactive, they have very long half-lives. The radiation danger comes from the waste of nuclear fission, which have very short half-lives and is therefore highly radioactive.

7. Hmmm. Is this before or after the Embassy hostage-takers get tried?
There's also quite a few Iranians who need to be charged with war crimes for what went on during the Iran-Iraq War.

12. Iran President: Charge Bush for War Crimes
Iran President: Charge Bush for War Crimes
By NASSER KARIMI, Associated Press Writer
Sat Nov 26,11:19 AM ET

Iran's hard-line president said Saturday the Bush administration should be tried on war crimes charges, and he denounced the West for pressuring Iran to curb its controversial nuclear program.

"You, who have used nuclear weapons against innocent people, who have used uranium ordnance in Iraq, should be tried as war criminals in courts," Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in an apparent reference to the United States.

...

Since the Iraq war started in 2003, American forces have fired at least 120 tons of shells packed with depleted uranium, an extremely dense material used by the U.S. and British militaries to penetrate tank armor. Once fired, the shells melt, vaporize and turn to dust.

"Who in the world are you to accuse Iran of suspicious nuclear armed activity?" Ahmadinejad said during a nationally televised ceremony marking the 36th anniversary of the establishment of Iran's volunteer Basij paramilitary force.

It's how we manipulate people all the time - let's hope we stay financially strong or we're screwed. Bush isn't helping.
