Sixteen die in India bus plunge
At least 16 bodies have been retrieved from a bus that was swept away in floods in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Rescuers fear the death toll could rise as the bus was carrying scores of passengers from the city of Tiruchchirappalli to Rameswaram.

About 30 passengers were rescued quickly and 10 admitted to hospital.

The bus was swept from a bridge into the Sarugani river. Heavy rain has been falling in the area for the past week.

2. Update: India flood bus plunges kill 58 (two buses)
At least 58 bodies have been recovered after two packed passenger buses were swept away in floods in India's Tamil Nadu state, officials say.

Rescuers fear the death toll could rise much higher as the buses were carrying scores more passengers.

In one incident, in Thanjavur district, 40 bodies have been found - another 40 people are missing. In the other, near Rameswaram, 18 bodies have been found.
