Schmidt invited to visit Iraq
Questions whether Congress should be debating war

Less than a week after being the subject of catcalls and boos for her House floor speech during an Iraq debate, U.S. Rep. Jean Schmidt, R-Miami Township, said Wednesday that she has been asked to go to Iraq early next year as part of a congressional delegation.

Schmidt, speaking to the Enquirer editorial board Wednesday morning, said she could offer no details on the Iraq trip, but said it would likely occur in mid-January.

"And I was asked to go after I made my comment," the freshman congresswoman said.

...

"I'm not sure whether Congress should have a national debate on whether we should be there or not," said Schmidt, the most junior member of Congress, having been sworn in 11 weeks ago. "We did that in Vietnam, and it really demoralized the troops."

1. I would ask what the hell she thinks the function of congress is, but she
is clearly too stupid to even think about answering that question.

WHO invited her, and why?

42. The usual spiteful cabal who invited
all the Iran/Contra criminals back into this administration and thumbed their noses at those Americans who care about this country not falling into the hands of criminals and cowardly chickenhawks who will send others to die in their wars for profit.

They hate to be defeated, or shamed. So they back people like this and Brownie just to 'show' us.

She is being 'saved' by them, they think this will give her some sort of leverage. It's all about 'you can't stop us'.

It's just another one of their cheap PR tricks which are becoming all too familiar and it won't change the fact that she is a liar and that she insulted a man who actually did serve his country. What a waste of taxpayer money ~ and what an insult to the troops who she so defiled when she dared to call a man who really does care about them, a coward, and then she lied about. Nothing she does can change the laughing stock she has become.

She was calling Murtha a coward at the specific behest of the whole stinking rotten cabal.

4. She STILL doesn't get it.
She is the one who demoralized troops by inferring a twice decorated marine was a coward. Our Iraqi vets know future GOP could do that to them based on political ideology convenience.

For the truth on Iraq, go to www.icasualties.org

She'll be just another republican opportunist who says all is beautiful in Iraq. She is the traitor as is her party.

Too bad she's too freakin' old.

Since the military isn't an option, she could work for Dyncorp or Blackwater as "security".

22. No. I don't think we should talk about the war. It's so hurtful to the
troops - much more so than the IEDs, mortars and bullets. I don't understand why people are so insensitive. I mean what's the point of trying to discuss all our options? I'm sure the troops are hoping they can stay in Iraq forever. To talk about getting them out of there is like telling them there is no Santa. Yeah for Schmidt! It's about time we had a woman with some brains in the Congress.

28. I know that sometimes this is a waste of time.
Send this congress women a little email on her ridiculous comments.
Jean@JeanSchmidt.com This is my comment.
Dear congress women
I just heard that you have a schedule trip to Iraq. Your comment were as follows.
"I'm not sure whether Congress should have a national debate on whether we should be there or not," said Schmidt, the most junior member of Congress, having been sworn in 11 weeks ago. "We did that in Vietnam, and it really demoralized the troops."

If I was a elected a congress my first priority would be to visit our troops in Iraq. This is not demoralizing the troops demoralizing the troops is not caring enough to visit them.

Edited on Fri Nov-25-05 10:48 AM by alcibiades_mystery
Hell, half the Army was involved in some protest group or writing underground GI newspapers by 1970. It was the clusterfuck management, the lack of justifiable purpose, and the fucking mines, snipers, and incoming that demoralized the troops. And the heroin, I should think. Get a fucking clue.

I don't think it was the national debate that demoralized the troops as much as it was the chickenhawk pieces of shit like Crashcart and * who cheered on sending poor men and women to die in the jungle while they pulled strings to keep their asses safe and dry. Asshole.

40. Visit Iraq or Visit the Green Zone??
It's like Haley Barbour "visiting Iraq," and you know they only go to the Green Zone, fully protected with the finest of well armed guards, security copters flying constandly overhead and parimeters of armed military just strictly used for their safety.

They will do the photo-ops with the troops......never any with the Iraqi citizens or in the Iraqi homes, schools, hospital, military bases etc.....all in the safe confines of the Green Zone. They will then return home and declare Iraq stabalized the everything honkey dorey. To bad the internet and our returning troops allow the people to see and hear the truths. We sure aren't going to get it from the Haley Barbour's or the Jeanne Schmidt's.

Haley Barbour to visit Iraq but he hasn't been to visit and talk to his own people on the Gulf who are still living in tents and without the barest of necessities...but then he did tell Georgie that his State and it's people were doing great?
