President calls members of U.S. armed services; thanks them for defending country

CRAWFORD, Texas — President Bush's Thanksgiving Day agenda was a lot like that of most Americans: time with the family, plenty of turkey and dressing, maybe a nap in front of the Dallas-Denver football game.

But before that, he took time out in the morning to call 10 members of the U.S. armed services, a spokeswoman said, including personnel from the Coast Guard, Army, Navy and Air Force.

Spokeswoman Dana Perrino said those called from the president's Texas ranch included a service member in Afghanistan, several in Iraq and one on a ship at sea.

She said the president "wished them all a 'Happy Thanksgiving' and thanked them behalf of the American people'' and that he "told them they were all patriots and asked them to pass along his wishes to their fellow service members.''

2. Bush was the turkey this time!
He couldn't even see his beloved troops in person. He only needs them as backdrops for his speeches.

3. Sad to say this but our "troops" are not defending me
or America on the contrary their endangering the lives of all Americans here at home with this endless war. When may I ask were we in the cross hairs of Saddam? Today after 30 months of carnage in Iraq
thousands of dead and wounded and billions of dollars wasted we are in worse shape. Most of the world hates America (Dimson) and I wouldn't be surprised if the Bush Crime Family is goading the enemy into another major attack so the Crime Family can implement the dreaded Martial Law.

4. Right. They'd be happy to create a crisis, to suspend the election.
It surely wouldn't surprise anyone any longer.

We need to be defended from the Neocons.

Richard Perle was on C-Span last night, and got a stream of angry callers. He called one of the callers "illiterate," and invited a female caller to turn the station since she finds him distasteful.
All delivered with a sneer, and a giggle.

That's the way they feel toward the ordinary public. They'll take their taxpayer-derived salaries, steer all business to their friends, manipulate events, control the press so we have absolutely no idea whatsoever what's happening, and simply steal our government, our country, and make it illegal to protest.

Defending the country. That's a hot one.

16. I agree..
since when are they "defending our country" - defending us against what? Those WMD's? When did Iraq attack us or have the capability of attacking us? What an idiot.

5. I had to see how
the line ended. If he had thanked them for defending Halliburton it would make sense.

They do join to defend our country, that just isn't what they are being used for.

6. He won't even do a Thanksgiving turkey run anymore
I wonder if he has just lost interest, or if things are too far out of control to even risk a quick trip to the Baghdad airport.

7. So George didn't go to Iraq this time?
Aw, that's a shame....But after all, he's got some problems of his own back home at Crawford. It seems that there are some pesky protesters just a mile down the road.

They're just not going to let him enjoy his turkey dinner in peace.

Check-mate, George.

8. I'll bet he called them collect.
Or they'll get a bill for the phone call along with the bill for turning back in a scuffed rifle.

12. All you guys /gals are tooooo much!! I used to think I was the
only sinister/negative/nasty one. You sure know how to call one when you see it!!!! And to think Cheney et al was soooo shocked that someone would dare call them liars. Don't they ever get on the internet or listen to the news? I doubt it! They only listen to their own kind.
He's totally in the dark as to what his fellow Americans think of him. He didn't even know or care people were drowning till they made him a vedeo to prove it. I guess someone finally had the nerve (or drew the short stick) to tell him we ALL think they are a bunch of evil, crooked, liars and belong in the Hague. He sure has had a rude awaking! I hope he's having a nice Thanksgiving! :sarcasm:

Speaking of which...I hope you all had or are having a happy one.
I did... Every ones gone home to get all the little kiddies to bed!
I'm taking a break between while doing tons of dishes and loving all the bush* bashing! Ahhh! What fun!!!
