10. Pile 'em high!

Grass Bush

Pile the bodies high in Austerlitz and Waterloo Iraq
Shovel them under and let me work--
I am the grass; bush; I cover all.

And pile them high in Gettyburg Baghdad
And pile them high in Ypres and Vedum Mossoul and Al Fallaujah

Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conductor:
What place is this?

I am the grass bush.
Let me work.

11. The White Man's Burden
Take up the White Man's burden--
Send forth the best ye breed--
Go bind your sons to exile
To serve your captives' need;
To wait in heavy harness,
On fluttered folk and wild--
Your new-caught, sullen peoples,
Half-devil and half-child.

...

Take up the White Man's burden--
No tawdry rule of kings,
But toil of serf and sweeper--
The tale of common things.
The ports ye shall not enter,
The roads ye shall not tread,
Go mark them with your living,
And mark them with your dead.

*This famous poem, written by Britain's imperial poet was a response to the American take over of the Philippines after the Spanish-American War 1899

12. I like that poem. The Spanish American War was another nasty
high counting death affair.

13. god, they're happening so fast now...
i'm scared that they'll start feeling like only numbers. it's hard to emotionally keep up with this madness.

we need to bring them home now. i don't care about my country's pride, or our "strategic advantage," or keeping up appearances anymore. i just want my fellow americans, my soldiers home. enough...
