Cheney will speak at DeLay fundraiser
Appearance is a sign the lawmaker has party support

WASHINGTON - One of the most powerful members of the House usually does not need the vice president to campaign for him, but then again, this is an unusual time for Rep. Tom DeLay. So on Dec. 5, Dick Cheney is scheduled to speak at what promises to be a lucrative re-election fundraiser in Houston for the Sugar Land Republican.

The vice president's first appearance on DeLay's behalf is proof that the lawmaker, who faces two felony charges in Texas, still has powerful allies.

"It points out that the party is behind (DeLay) and the (Bush) administration is supportive and wants to keep Congressman DeLay in office," said Eric Thode, chairman of the Republican Party of Fort Bend County.

Some of the highest-ranking Republicans in Texas, including Gov. Rick Perry and Sens. Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn, are serving as chairs of the fundraising event.

22. Not to change the subject, but ---
this photo haunts me. I've seen it a few times, and the look on Barbara Bush's face is just hideous.

I imagine that this is what their scrawny little faces will look like, when they have kicked the bucket. Then, their lives will flash before their eyes. They will see all the horrible things they've done to other people, including their own kids. How Barbara's cruelty to her own son turned him into an abuser; he killed frogs by stuffing firecrackers into them. Really sick stuff.

Barbara and Poppy's faces reveal they've already seen the future. Nightmarish stuff.

Why aren't they all in Hell right this minute?? Karma is slow but will soon catch up to these contemptible people. Yes, we want to legally try them for war crimes and they will find that meeting justice at last will be like Hell for them.

Cheney to Headline DeLay Fundraiser
Vice President Dick Cheney to Headline DeLay Campaign Fundraiser Next Month

The Associated Press

HOUSTON - A campaign fundraiser for embattled Rep. Tom DeLay postponed by Hurricane Rita in September is being rescheduled for Dec. 5 with Vice President Dick Cheney as the headliner. "It points out that the party is behind (DeLay) and the (Bush) administration is supportive and wants to keep Congressman DeLay in office,"

Eric Thode, Republican chairman in DeLay's home county of Fort Bend, told the Houston Chronicle in a story published Tuesday. The most expensive tickets for the event $4,200 includes a spot at a VIP reception and a photograph with the vice president.

"Congressman Tom DeLay has been an exceptional leader on Capitol Hill and Vice President Cheney looks forward to helping his re-election effort," said Lee Anne McBride, a Cheney spokeswoman in Washington.

DeLay was indicted earlier this year on campaign finance-related charges in Travis County, an action that forced him to step down at least temporarily as House majority leader. Former Rep. Nick Lampson is seeking the Democrat nomination to run against DeLay next year.

Vice President Dick Cheney speaks at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington Monday, Nov. 21, 2005. Cheney charged that some Senate Democrats were "dishonest and reprehensible" for suggesting that President Bush lied to the nation about going to war in Iraq. Cheney toned down the attack on House Democrat John Murtha, who's calling for a withdrawal from Iraq, adding that Murtha is a "patriot" who's engaging in legitimate debate.

37. Cheney to Headline DeLay Fundraiser
The dirtiest word in that headline, amazingly, is FUNDRAISER. When will the GOP become embarrassed by its pay-to-play politics, by it's selling out of representative governance for corporate cronyism?

They brag about how much money they raise, but the amounts of money itself are the party's indictment. They get that money to do bidness, and it's a disgrace.

You'd think by now the fundy base would be catching on.
