Bush Rejects Calls for Iraq Withdrawal
http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlatest/story/0,1280,-5425204,00.html

BUSAN, South Korea (AP) - President Bush swatted down calls in Congress for a U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq, saying on Saturday that American military leaders believe that retreat now would be.''

``So we will fight the terrorists in Iraq and we will stay in the fight until we have achieved the victory our brave troops have fought and bled for,'' said Bush, facing mounting criticism from home about his war policy.

Bush defended his Iraq policy in remarks prepared for a speech at Osan Air Base, headquarters for the 7th Air Force, the primary U.S. Air Force unit in Korea. He was to stop there on his way to China.

``In Washington there are some who say that the sacrifice is too great, and they urged us to set a date for withdrawal before we have completed our mission,'' the president said. ``Those who are in the fight know better.''

....if he continues with this 'stay the course' BS, NO ONE will support him again!!

Republicans are already seeing the importance of distancing themselves from Bush due to the lack of public support.

Are we waiting for a formal surrender by somebody? A ceremony? Why doesn't somebody ask what "victory" is supposed to mean?

Victory means permanent bases with 200,000 hapless GIs stationed forever.

5. He's got a lot of gall talking about "those in the fight"
since his cowardly ass never faces danger - never has and never will

It's so easy for those not risking anything to talk about how the sacrifice is worth it.

If that man gets away with his cold blooded murder of Iraqis and soldiers alike - well, let's just say I don't know how any American will be able to hold their head up if he does.

23. Bush had better be damn ready
to fight for his war every day, all day. The long knives are out for Bush. It's going to be a huge battle. People have understood that this is a losing proposition.

Including the people who made the decisions. I've read several articles which would be from people "in the know" that just about everyone has soured on this war. This includes big players, real heavyweights who see this war as unwinnable.

There is simply no winning. Bush keeps screeching that we're going to 'stay the course" "keep fighting until we have victory", but he doesn't say what that victory will be.

Bush simply doesn't have the strength to fight them all. He's got 2 wards going on: the war in Iraq, and the war to keep fighting.

31. Iraq: We stay in fight, says Bush (speech to Korea troops, Dem rebuttal)
CNN: Iraq: We stay in fight, says Bush
Saturday, November 19, 2005; Posted: 8:48 a.m. EST

"We stay on until victory:" Bush addresses U.S. troops at Osan air base, South Korea.

BUSAN, South Korea (CNN) -- In a speech before U.S. troops who stand watch along the Korean frontier, President Bush on Saturday offered his latest rebuttal to Democratic calls to bring U.S. troops home from Iraq, vowing to "stay in the fight until we have achieved the victory our brave troops have fought for."

"In Washington, there are some who say that the sacrifice is too great, and they urge us to set a date for withdrawal before we have completed our mission," Bush said Saturday. "Those who are in the fight know better."

"So long as I am commander-in-chief, our strategy in Iraq will be driven by the sober judgment of our military commanders on the ground," he said, adding that U.S. troops are "making steady progress" in training Iraqi forces to defend their country.

"As Iraqis stand up, we will stand down," he said.

The president also made the argument that the U.S. operation in Iraq is part of "our work for peace and freedom," which involves "great sacrifice by our troops."...

35. How will we know when we've won?
Nobody seems to want to define what "victory" in Iraq is. When will the mission be accomplished? Murtha says it already has been: Saddam Hussein is no longer in power and we found all the WMDs he had (namely none). So why are we still there? To secure the oil? To be sure that the puppet government we want stays in power? What's the goal? Do we just stay for another eight years or so until the last helicopter flies off the roof of the embassy in Baghdad? So then somebody can build another black wall in a park where another 58,000 names can be written?
