Lawmaker Wants to Declassify Iraq Papers
WASHINGTON (AP) - House Intelligence Committee Chairman Peter Hoekstra wants to declassify millions of pages of untranslated documents from Iraq collected by the U.S. government over more than a decade.

The Michigan Republican says it's a way to learn what's inside more than 35,000 boxes that haven't been translated because the government doesn't have enough Arabic linguists with security clearances.

"Most people have acknowledged that we are never going to get through them," he said of the boxes. Hoekstra is hoping to work with the new Iraqi government to put the documents online so journalists, academics and other researchers can sift through them.

1. Of course BushCo can't allow this.
If the documents show no evidence of WMD programs
or collusion with al-Qaeda, it will further confirm
to the world that the BushCo case for war was a sham.

3. Will it include the Dear Lisa letter?
Dear Lisa,

President Bush spoke before the United Nations and outlined Saddam Hussein's long record of defiance and deceit and the continuing threat posed by his outlaw regime. Over a decade ago the Iraqi dictator agreed to end its pursuit of weapons of mass destruction and numerous other sanctions. On every account Saddam Hussein has broken his promises to the United States and to the world - jeopardizing peace and stability for every nation.

In his words to the United Nations, President Bush made clear the impending danger that exists while Saddam Hussein is still in power saying, "With every step the Iraqi regime takes toward gaining and deploying the most terrible weapons, our own options to confront that regime will narrow. And if an emboldened regime were to supply these weapons to terrorist allies, then the attacks of September the 11th would be a prelude to far greater horrors."

President Bush understands that we must eliminate the threat Saddam Hussein poses to the American people and to the world and a growing number of leaders are echoing that we can't wait any longer to take action against Saddam Hussein.

Sincerely,

Jack Oliver
Deputy Chairman
Republican National Committee
