US Senate OKs stopgap bill to keep government going

WASHINGTON, Nov 18 (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate on Friday approved a resolution to keep the federal government running through Dec. 17 as Congress struggled to complete work on outstanding spending bills.

The measure, approved on a voice vote, now goes to President George W. Bush for signing into law. The House of Representatives passed an identical measure on Thursday.

This is the second such measure that was needed since the federal government's fiscal year started on Oct. 1. The first extension expired on Friday.
