Petition exhorts Bush to protect chaplains

More than 100,000 people have signed a petition calling on President Bush to protect the right of military chaplains to pray according to their own faith.
The signatures are the latest push in effort to get Bush to sign a presidential order blocking the Pentagon from issuing regulations requiring chaplains to refrain from prayers that might be offensive to others.

Rep. Walter Jones, R-N.C., has been leading the effort. Seventy-one members of the House of Representatives have signed a letter to Bush that Jones prepared, asking for a presidential executive order protecting the free-speech rights of chaplains.

Of particular concern, Jones said in an interview, is that Christian chaplains are finding it increasingly difficult to “pray in the name of Jesus.”

1. What a quandary
Will Bush listen to the focus group since it's rightwing?

He wouldn't listen to 500,000 petition signers who wanted the U.S. out of Iraq.

2. I can think of more important things to protect chaplains from
Oh, just minor shit like "getting blown up in illegal wars" and "getting captured and beheaded by Islamists."
