Here's a link to his web site. He has his talking points all lined up. He's fighting kind of...shall I just say...dirty. In other words, it looks like he's lying about Peterson.
http://www.barrettforcongress06.com/Here's what he has to say about Peterson. I think he is hitting issues these clueless Republicans will be. I'm hearing much the same in Colorado about immigration. We need to get ahead of this. These idiots have the bits between their teeth and are off running toward a cliff. God knows who will follow them. And the part about not wanting to cut the budget to help Katrina victims....oh, please. We need to take heating fuel assistance and food stamps and away from struggling families to do what...? :eyes:
http://www.barrettforcongress06.com/news.html“We don’t just need someone who will work hard for the District,” said Barrett, “what we really need is someone who will also get results. I am just that person.” He went on to describe how ineffective the current Congressman has been, and pointed out that the only piece of legislation he could find that Peterson had passed in 15 years was a very minor bill to prevent the interstate transportation of chickens for cockfighting. “I can’t promise you how many terms I will serve in Congress,” Barrett said, “but one thing I will promise you is that when I leave, I will have more than just chickens on my resume”. Barrett went on to explain that “like it or not, the truth is that you have to be in the majority Republican caucus in order to have any real effect on legislation. Even with his new minority position, Collin is still nothing more than a voice from the wilderness”. He further stated, “as a freshman Republican, I will immediately have more clout in the next Congress than an eight term Democrat. Unlike Collin, I will not just complain. I will offer real solutions instead”.
Barrett also expressed his concern over the ‘upbraiding’ that Peterson suffered at the hands of the House Democratic Caucus earlier this year, and the subsequent deal that Peterson was forced to make with them to get his leadership position. “Before they would give him the ‘ranking’ minority position on the Ag Committee, he had to promise to vote the Democrat party line more. The direct result of this is that he no longer votes with the Seventh District”. “Collin hasn’t changed Washington in eight terms,” said Barrett, “and now we see that Washington has changed Collin”. Barrett went on to describe how Peterson, in 2005, has voted twice against Homeland Security, voted four times against Small Business, and voted against cheaper fuel for farmers this year at harvest time. He also showed how Peterson voted against faith-based hiring and more accountability in education and has talked about fiscal restraint but is now poised with all the other House Democrats to vote against cutting the federal budget to help with Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts. “Representative Peterson always talks as a fiscal conservative, but he usually votes the other way when he thinks nobody is paying attention” said Barrett, “but the National Taxpayers Union rankings for the last five years clearly show Collin to be a big spender”. In closing he said, “The major difference between Collin and myself is that I will always be a person who will represent the best interests of the people of my District first, and I would never consider selling them out just for a leadership position. I am a person of principles, and I will always stand by them”.
