Democrats fire back at Bush criticism

<snip>

Senator Edward Kennedy says it is "regrettable" that the president is attacking those "who seek the truth" about how intelligence was manipulated before the war.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid called the president's comments a return to what Reid calls "his old playbook of discredited rhetoric about the war on terror."

Reid says Democrats "stand with our troops" when they question the intelligence that was used to justify the war.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi says it is "never appropriate" to try to play politics with war or with veterans. She says the president is doing "a disservice" to U-S troops and the nation by trying to silence those asking questions about putting U-S forces in harm's way.

The thought of Rove and "shaggy balls" in the same sentence is too much for me.

Somehow, I think he shaves his anyway.

3. Do you remember the debates
between, Kerry and bush. Kerry refused to use the words lie or liar but instead used the word mislead. I saw him on some interview later and he said he just wouldn't use the word liar. Anyone else see that interview?

10. I'm sure they had one sentence of reply....
It is despicable that these articles never carry the complete dem conversations. Not even when they hold press gatherings.

CNN showed a few sentences by Harry Reid the other day, and then cut to a split screen with him still talking live, while the bimbo was paraphrasing what he was saying.

13. Here is Kerry's. Kerry was actually attacked in bushiters speech today.
Nothing like attacking a veteran on Veteran's Day, while playing politics!

“I wish President Bush knew better than to dishonor America’s veterans by playing the politics of fear and smear on Veterans Day. Instead of trying to salvage his slumping political fortunes, the Commander in Chief should honor our men and women in uniform with a clear strategy for success in Iraq. But this Administration abandoned that path long ago, and our troops have paid the price for it.

“This administration misled a nation into war by cherry-picking intelligence and stretching the truth beyond recognition. That’s why Scooter Libby has been indicted. That’s why a statement in the State of the Union Address was retracted. It’s a dangerous day for our national security when an Administration’s word is no good. Today they continue the same games hoping Americans forget the mess they made in Iraq that’s cost over 2,000 Americans their lives and their failure to find Osama bin Laden. Americans will not forget, and neither will those of us who defend our country by asking tough questions and demanding a new course in Iraq.“

20. So shrub doesn't know that the
Senate Intelligence Committee hasn't even started phase II of the investigation yet? WOW. This shit is amazing. Dems need to use this, the fact that he doesn't even know what's going on with the investigation.

"Some Democrats and anti-war critics are now claiming we manipulated the intelligence and misled the American people about why we went to war. These critics are fully aware that a bipartisan Senate investigation found no evidence of political pressure to change the intelligence community's judgments related to Iraq's weapons programs."

30. That line was put in that speech for the same damned reason the
later retracted line about yellow-cake was in the SOTU address. Put it out there, people will hear it, read it but most will miss the correction down the road.

Nice try, but how can they honestly think that will work this time around? After all the hull-a-ba-loo they made when Reid called for the closed session? American's are paying a LOT more attention these days, Rove. They are tired of you underestimating their intelligence and taking advantage of their once blind trust they had during their fragile state of mind.

Mark my words, this will all backfire on them.

21. Democrat politicians will not
be effective as long as they don't state clearly why they voted for the war. This silence will be used at its maximum by the WH and will in effect neutralize most attacks as long as this point is not cleared up. Of course, that would amount to choose between being weak in the spine or too easily manipulated, but a clear honest statement would go a long way. It takes a little less courage to face up now than it would have taken to stand up then, but that I think it would still be enormously appreciated...

23. That's 30%.
And even then, don't you think that the global support for this nightmare should be revisited and honestly explained to the democratic base? Us. Even the bishops feel that need (co-occuring post).

24. Actually, I think these blunt responses
to bush's inappropriately timed attack are sufficient.

Coming attacks against bush and his policies (like the ones we've been seeing in the last few weeks) will, of course, always be welcome.
