In Reid's war room, the battle rages on
November 6, 2005

WASHINGTON -- At 12:50 p.m. on Oct. 28, Fox News reported that top White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby had resigned, facing indictment.

On the third floor of the U.S. Capitol, inside Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid's communications "war room," eyes darted over a bank of seven flat-screen televisions.

Just moments later CNN reporter Ed Henry appeared on one of the screens, reading a statement of reaction from Reid.

That written statement, finalized about three hours earlier, was just one of the many handcrafted products generated daily by the war room in a city ruled by news cycles.

1. "Critics say"
Edited on Sun Nov-06-05 03:09 PM by Moochy
check out this choice bit:

Critics say the war room's biggest failure is not firmly establishing a Democratic message, especially in the minds of voters.

"If bitterness and negativity are the message, then yeah, they do that quite well," former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott, R-Miss., said in an interview last week.

Yeah there's an unbiased critic. Trent Lott. :eyes: Quelle suprise!

Project much Trent?

5. I'm only pointing out
Edited on Sun Nov-06-05 03:22 PM by Moochy
that phrase "critics say" and contrast it to how the author pulls Trent Lott out from the cryptkeeper's crypt and use his criticism as some example of what "people are saying".

I.e. a false projection of this one EXTREMELY biased partisan hack's views onto the more generic "critics"

3. Strange, isn't it? The only cohesive message the Repubs have ...
... is that Democrats don't have a message.

9. Nice user name!
Have you read the historical mysteries by "Steven Saylor"? The Roma sub Rosa series follows his main character an investigator of sorts in Late Republican Rome. His name is Gordianus, named after that knot.

Excellent series of books for anyone even vaguely interested in that time period.

cheers

11. I researched the name before I chose it.
My position is we are at the point of an untie-able knot when the election was stolen in 2000 which I view as the true Y2K disaster. The knot is only becoming more complex as the Republic is collapsing. Yes we are headed into into the same gutter as the Roman Republic.

I am also a fan of the antiquities, many lessons there for those who read them.

22. That's interesting
I told my husband that I thought the real disaster predicted in 2000 was George W. Shrub! He was the Y2K disaster!!

25. *co would like to slice that knot just as
Alexander did. However, I too see the threads of the knot and there have been many pulls of the yarn that moved the whole closer to the center.

8. How do the dems get their message out ?
Oh yeah through the reid's war room, and the press. :)

Reminds me of when CNN asks the question "Is the media focusing too much attention on <issue X> ?" Indicting the "media" as something other than themselves.

12. I don't want their message
invading a another country on false intelligence
not saving their own people during a hurricane
giving tax breaks to oil companies with record profits
pork barrel spending then trying to cut benefits medicare food stamps school lunch program and student loans.
with a message like that no thanks
This should be the message the Dems should be telling the American people. Do you want a agenda like this keep voting Republican.

13. The Republicans are afraid to deal the Democratic message.
That is why they keep saying it every chance they get. They should be asked why they are in such denial, what are they afraid of, since the Democratic message is pretty clear.

They act like little kids who are about to get caught with the matches after the house burns down. :eyes:

I'd say that this is a great news that Reid is taking the media this seriously. Let's hope for more handcrafted products from Reid et. al in the coming months!

20. Great article... Very balanced -- save the bit with Lott's sorry ass.
I'm surprised this has not received more recommendations. Harry Reid is doing a fantastic job leading our party in the Senate. I can't wait until next year. It will prove to be most interesting.
