Bush Says Progress Is Being Made in Iraq

WASHINGTON (AP) - With the American death toll above 2,000, President Bush said Saturday that the war in Iraq has required ``great sacrifice,'' but that progress is being made and the United States must remain steadfast.

In his third speech on Iraq this week, Bush sought to shore up flagging support for a war that began March 20, 2003.

``The best way to honor the sacrifice of our fallen troops is to complete the mission and win the war on terror,'' the president said in his weekly radio address.

``We will train Iraqi security forces and help a newly elected government meet the needs of the Iraqi people. In doing so, we will lay the foundation of peace for our children and grandchildren.''

he didn't specify WHO was making progress in Iraq. He probably meant the Iraqi anti-occupation forces, who are indeed making progress against the coalition forces.:evilfrown:

22. Let him KEEP TALKING ...
... every time he talks about 'progress' in Iraq, he makes it even more obvious to his (few) supporters that he's lying. As long as American soldiers are still dying every day, that's the only 'progress' that sticks in anyone's mind.

I'm always SOOOO happy to hear him blather on about Iraq -- every time he does, he ties himself to the entire misadventure even more tightly. That means that every time a former Bush supporter loses faith in the mission in Iraq, BUSH has lost that person's support FOREVER!

24. yes, his lying blather is becoming so obvious that
even neocons like Pat Buchanan are calling for a withdrawal of troops from Iraq and saying BushCo was wrong.

IMO, The Miers split in the Repuke party is NOTHING compared to what's coming as LIBBY's trial draws near.

25. I realize that a lot of Bush supporters are ...
... shall we say, less than intelligent, well-informed people. But even the DUMBEST person gets tired of watching the same movie, over and over, with a story-line that never goes ANYWHERE!

Not only is he in danger of losing more and more supporters due to the lack of progress and the death toll, he's liable to lose what's left of his would-be loyal supporters out of SHEER BOREDOM.

23. Progress? What progress.
I think Bush should be a little more specific. When he says "progress", he needs to elaborate.

Progress for the Iraqis? In what way? Or progress for the US troops? How? Are they being given their orders to go home?

I think Bush speaks in generalities. He hardly ever goes into specifics, because he knows it's impossible. He uses lovely, patriotic blurbs because he knows he can't get called on the carpet for them.

But if you listen closely, you realize he's not saying a damn thing.

33. Rumsfailed has piped in, too: US making progress against Iraq insurgency
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20051030/ts_nm/iraq_rumsfeld_dc

"The pressure applied on terrorists and insurgents is having an effect," Rumsfeld said in an interview in Der Spiegel magazine released on Sunday.

"We are capturing and killing large numbers of high-ranking people from groups like those of al Qaeda and Zarqawi," Rumsfeld said in comments translated into German.

Rumsfeld said he and others had believed violence would peak before the referendum on the Iraqi constitution on October 15, but he said that had not been the case.

Violence didn't peak?

http://icasualties.org

3 dead per day. Highest daily average of US deaths since JANUARY!
