Bad Blood Exists Between White House, CIA
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 3:56 a.m. ET

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Vice President Dick Cheney's former chief of staff is learning one Washington lesson the hard way: Don't do battle with people who run covert operations for a living.

The bad blood between the White House and CIA has been known for some time. But the 22-page indictment Friday of I. Lewis ''Scooter'' Libby displays -- in black and white -- just how nasty relations had become between senior White House officials and the nation's spy chiefs.

When Libby complained to the CIA in June 2003 that agency officials were making comments to reporters ''critical of the vice president's office,'' he specifically mentioned former Ambassador Joseph Wilson's trip to Niger to investigate whether Iraq was trying to obtain nuclear materials. He also spoke of Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame.

..cut...

Differences between the CIA and the White House over Iraq date back to the 1991 Persian Gulf War. Officials working for then-President George H.W. Bush faulted the intelligence community for failing to recognize how far Saddam Hussein had gotten in his nuclear weapons program.

When many of the same personalities returned to the White House under President Bush, they may have questioned whether -- this time -- the CIA could get it right as it investigated Saddam's arsenal and his possible connections to terrorists.

10. My guess is the CIA could also have "evidence" of TWO stolen elections
If only it was leaked...sure could help Fitz (and this country) a whole lot.

3.  Repug talking point, this is only ''inside-the-Beltway turf wars.''
The CIA is out to get shrub and pals?? They are going to play
the victim card? A common tactic for sociopaths.

4. My thoughts exactly
This AP wire story was ready made and prepackaged.

The fact that NY Times even printed this today just goes to show how far it has fallen....

9. I am so happy to see this. The truth about 9-11 will come out of this
battle, I think. BushCo blamed them for the attack and I think they are still a tad pissed.

11. It goes back much farther than 1991.
It is actually amazing to realize how many of these ignorant ideologues are recycled from the Vietnam War period, and the general pro-war and inflate-an-enemy policies and practices go back much farther than that.
