Iraq: EU ready for reconstruction role (if)
EU Observer

--- According to Jyllands Posten, during a visit to Washington this week Mr Patten said European money might be available for a reconstruction fund controlled by the World Bank and the United Nations Development Programme.

Mr Patten made it clear that Europe would rather deal with these organisation than with the US administrator in Baghdad, Paul Bremer.

However, Mr Patten’s plan still needs to be approved by the EU member states which could yet pose difficulties, with France and the US still not on good terms.
