Fess up on leak, Chuck prods Bush

BY JAMES GORDON MEEK and KENNETH R. BAZINET
DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/wn_report/story/357377p-304538c.html

WASHINGTON - Sen. Chuck Schumer yesterday urged President Bush to come clean on what and when he knew about political guru Karl Rove's involvement in the outing of CIA spy Valerie Plame.

Special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, meanwhile, is combing over testimony by John Hannah and David Wurmser, national security aides to Vice President Cheney who sources questioned under oath say may be the key to the probe.

Citing yesterday's Daily News story detailing Bush's angry 2003 outburst, Schumer requested particulars of that heated discussion about Rove's role in the CIA leaks. "It seems you may have been angry that White House officials were caught, not that they had compromised national security," Schumer wrote in a letter to Bush. Schumer also questioned why Bush didn't suspend Rove's top secret security clearance if he was aware his senior aide had a role in the Plame affair.

Bush spokesman Scott McClellan said he wasn't aware of the letter, but he still lashed out. "The last thing that we need to do is politicize an ongoing investigation," he said.

1. This is a governance issue, not a political isssue "Scottie"
Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 08:18 AM by Canuckistanian
And a senator from "the opposition" has a perfect right to ask about security issues.

And for Shrub to clam up now, claiming "ongoing investigation" is ludicrous. He has commented many times on the issue in the past.

6. That's right
It was McClellan himself who politicized the issue by making that statement. What if the letter were to have come from a Republican? Would that have been politicizing an ongoing investigation? No? So I guess Scotty must think Republicans can ask questions but Democrats can't.

How about all of Hot Tub Tom DeLay's highly public squealing about how evil Ronnie Earle is?

Wonder if Sotty thinks DeLay is doing anything to politicize that issue.

3. Tsk, Scott, very lame riposte. Your bosses politicized national security.
And that's a really bad thing to have to try and defend.

4. Please do not politicize crime
Yeah, we need to get tough on crime, but if involves Republican officials, PLEASE PLEASE don't you dare politicize Republican criminals.

By the way, how can you criminalize Republican politics? Republicans are already criminalized.

12. Call me back when every top DEM is echoing this question on TV.
Until then, all we have is polite letter being read mostly by internet political junkies, many who happen to be Net-Roots donors.

"What did Bush know, and when did he know it?"

Letters are nice, but Red-Staters to hear Kerry, Dean, Hillary, Obama, Reid, Shumer, etc, saying it over and over and over, ON TV.

15. If there's a leak out of my administration,
I want to know who it is, and if that person has violated law, it will be taken care of,

unless it's me. he, he. (sound of bush laughing)

Here's a bit of handy advice for those in the White House-

You can check to see if there is a leak by turning all water off in the house. Go out and read the water meter and then read it several hours later. A good time might be at bedtime and then the next morning.
