Clark pokes at Bush in Democratic address

WASHINGTON Retired Army General Wesley Clark says this weekend's constitutional referendum in Iraq is "an important political event" but "not the end of the story."

In today's Democratic radio address, Clark said President Bush is "long overdue in providing a plan to achieve Iraqi military sufficiency." He also chided the administration for failing to build a political consensus around a new government, achieve regional political stability, and develop reconstruction policies in Iraq.

Clark agrees with the president that a premature U-S withdrawal would reward terrorists. But he also says Americans are angry about Bush's "incompetence" and "general unwillingness to acknowledge with some humility" that he's made "terrible and tragic mistakes" in Iraq.

1. And, just to add, the constitution the Iraqis are voting on, sight unseen,
is a TEMPORARY one, they get to vote again on a constitution in a year. Who believes this vote will do anything concrete to change the current dynamics in Iraq, I sure as hell don't.

It is another 'mission accomplished' empty shell and the violence will continue as long as the US is there.

2. That's the mission.
Give people jobs, electricity, and clean water. Worry about some ridiculous document later. But that won't happen. "Just wreck it!" There never was any plan of rebuilding.
