Bush to visit Southern California -- governor plans to be elsewhere
Carla Marinucci, Chronicle Political Writer

Saturday, October 15, 2005

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, concerned that the decline in President Bush's popularity will pull down his special election measures, is not expected to appear with the president when he visits California next week.

Bush is scheduled to attend a fundraiser in Los Angeles for the Republican National Committee on Thursday and help cut the ribbon Friday at the opening of the new Air Force One exhibit at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley.

Although the governor's staff will not confirm his schedule this far in advance, sources said Schwarzenegger is not planning to attend either event. He is tentatively scheduled to campaign next week, possibly in the Central Valley, on the days of the visit.

A White House emissary, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the governor is getting bad counsel from his advisers. It will appear, "at a time when the president needs the support of a Republican governor (that Schwarzenegger) is turning his back" on Bush, the GOP leader said.

4. The Battle of The Approval Ratings Titans
Arnold is about 32% approval out here, or about 7 points behind The Hero Of New Orleans.

You'd think he'd show some respect.

6. Maybe, it's not just Arnie
As low as the approval numbers for each of these politicians rests, it is possible a joint WH/CA State House decision was made to keep the two apart in fear of cross contamination resulting in even lower numbers for both.

And, of course, Arnie would be asked to take the blame in PR releases.

Not deserting, just hiding in plain sight.

.......Just another possibility.......

12. bad either way for Arnie
with bush - reminds folks how unpopular BOTH are... avoid bush and reminds folks what an opportunist arnie is (used bush's post 911 fear popularity in his election) - with the added bonus on the latter that some conservos will be angry with him (cuz they still love fearful leader) - that they will stay away from Arnies beloved referendum's - which by the way, I hope folks are hammering away in LTTEs across the state are a collossal COST just because arnie wants it and KNOWS he cant get his way via elected officials. Ala arnie's costly (to tax payers) boondoggle election.

Save them for 2006 and 2008.

18. Well, that's my district - our GOP congressman is a bootlicking toady
And we've been stuck with him for 20 years - he could make out with W or Ahnold on camera & it won't make a difference. x(

I won't be able to make the RR Library protest if it's in the middle of the day but I know many who will be there.

14. This is the guy who uses Karl Rove's playbook and Jeb's budget director?
Arnold is a corporate terminator in a California skin. The difference between him and Bush underline their similarities: take care of a handful of corporations and wealthy people at the expense of the rest of us.

Edited on Sat Oct-15-05 12:05 PM by rocknation
especially since it looks like he's not going to able to complete his "assignment" of "DeLay-izing" California's voting districts. Like hell he's "turning his back" on Bush--It's the decline in HIS OWN popularity that's his problem!

I think it's the least we could do to organize the same for Smirk.
