Downing St deny 'baby Asbos' plan
9 October 2005

Downing Street has distanced itself from reports ministers are planning to impose anti-social behaviour orders (Asbos) on under-10s.

The Sunday Telegraph said it would be a "lighter sanction" than for older youths, and younger children were "unlikely" to be named and shamed.

<snip>

Binge drinkers who repeatedly offend could be named and shamed in a similar way to those given Asbos, it added.

Meanwhile, repeat offenders' families could be housed in special units, guarded by security officers and monitored by CCTV cameras.

A Downing Street spokesman said: "The prime minister has been very clear about making anti-social behaviour one of his priorities."

Wow, Blair just combined Clockwork Orange and 1984 and created a Brave New World. This is crazy shit.

1. ASBO the foetus will be next
Mind you - there are some parents you can fairly bet on to have anti-social children. Bush family come to mind in this also.

4. And who decides what "Anti-Social Behaviour" consists of?
My idea of anti-social behaviour may not be your idea of it, after all - so who's right? Who gets to decide? This is just CREEPY, and I wonder where the fuck Blair's mind has gone with this! (I'm sure there are many here in the U.S. - specifically, fundie groups - that would love to incorporate such draconian measures as these...)
Surely this will not be allowed to happen. The idea is absolutely chilling. :scared:

7. I don't thing this is fundie groups
so much as nanny groups. The govts of the last decades have eroded the social bonds that provided a brake on some of this. But there has always been unrest and now there is the money to buy the booze at the party pubs from the distillers who make it possible to binge on alco-pops etc.

6. On the other hand
...persistent hooliganism fueled by drunken louts binge drinking has taken over many town centers after dark. And the anti-social behavior in some areas make it a nightmare for residents who can't live in peace.
Unchannelled alcohol fueled tribal energy needs more outlets that the football ground.
