Iraq on verge of civil war - Arab League chief

LONDON, Oct 8 (Reuters) - Iraq is on the verge of civil war and there is no clear strategy or leadership to reconcile the different communities, the head of the Arab League said on Saturday.

Speaking to BBC radio, Amr Moussa said the League would work to bring the different groups together.

"The situation is so tense ... a civil war could erupt at any moment, although some people would say it is already there, so we cannot leave Iraq with divisions and disagreement and conflict and shooting," he said.

"There are a lot of individuals ... now playing games with the future of Iraq and there is no clear strategy, there is no clear leadership."

2. b'doy!
It took only 2 and a half years to figure this one out??????

Of course there's no leadership. You have George W. Bush "in charge". Forget about it.

Civil war? YA THINK?

Who has not been paying attention? I think I spotted one.

4. It's a matter of when it starts, not if it starts.
I hope Americans forces are safely out of the picture when this powder keg explodes, as it surely will.

5. The keg has arrived safely
and is exploding as we speak. Every day, every hour.

6. Give me 1 solid reason why Bush doesn't prefer a civil war over
Edited on Sat Oct-08-05 10:58 AM by bushmeat
an Iraqi government that is not 'friendly' with the US?

Because I see no evidence that a 3rd alternative exists!

A civil war gives Bush an excuse to keep troops there. I am convinced that this has been his plan since the Iraqi election.

7. You give bu$h too much credit for competence.
They really believed Iraq would be a cake walk. Everything they have done in Iraq has been short sighted & disastrous for the people, both military & civilian, over there.
