Dr. Jerry Falwell Backing Harriet Miers For Supreme Court

Dr. Jerry Falwell, during an appearance in Chattanooga on Wednesday night, said he backs Harriet Miers for the U.S. Supreme Court.

Speaking to a gathering of Baptist ministers at the annual Southwide Baptist Fellowship at Highland Park Baptist Church, he said he stood behind President George W. Bush in supporting his second nominee to the Supreme Court.

Breaking with many of his conservative allies, he called Ms. Miers a "woman of great character, and a lover of Christ."

He said he spoke with the President about the nomination and was reassured that she will be a reliably conservative justice. Mr. Falwell also stated he trusts President Bush's judgment and will work for Miers' nomination against what he sees as the hard-line Democratic opposition in the Senate, consisting mainly of Sens. Hillary Clinton, Edward Kennedy, Chuck Schumer and Richard Durban, who "would vote no on Jesus."

5. Well now, it is all settled. All you Repubs who are
concerned about her can relax. The prophet has spoken. All is well. I wish we could revoke his non-tax status. He is as much a politician as Karl Rove.

6. Scary.
<< Breaking with many of his conservative allies, he called Ms. Miers a "woman of great character, and a lover of Christ." >>

Then I definitely oppose her. If Falwell is for it, then it's certainly something that I want nothing to do with.

A "lover-of-Christ"?? Oh brother! :eyes:

7. The "hard-line" opposition to Miers is not coming from the
Democrats, it's coming from the Republicans! But you see, fascists cannot speak out against the Leader's party, so the good fascist must pretend that the opposition is coming from the godless left or the atheists and communists. Our "press" is criminal. We not only have to bring down this fascist regime, we must also bring down practically the entire US media which is owned and operated by the fascist corporations. This is a mammoth task...

10. He must be privy to the same information that Dobson...
..."isn't at liberty" to discuss.

In other words, like Cheney assured Rush he wouldn't be disappointed, someone has gone behind the scenes and assured all these fundamentalist leaders that Miers intends to stamp out abortion rights. This is really appalling.

15. "the Falwell will always be with you"
What would Falwell and Pat Robertson ever do if the SCOTUS ever endorsed their agenda, and their ideas of "justice" became the law of the land?

They'd have nothing to complain about. No basis for drumming up further donations to their "greatly needed" projects & programs.

Falwell, Robertson: their God is Power/Money. They will never ever endorse a script that doesn't include a major role for the theatatrics they star in.

So, reading the tea leaves...I suspect that Miers will talk a strong anti-abortion line, but will maintain the status quo. The main thing is, she'll be sure her Georgie boy never needs to do hard time for his crimes.

Fallwell and Robertson won't be happy until all there is a giant gay and ethnic cleansing in America (and possibly the world), and all americans join their cause, and they have billions in donations and 9 yo asian hookers - some boys.

29. Quite possibly
I'd say your right...but I also believe that they will be more happy if they leave a few of us on the margins to be punching bags for their aggression and the cause celebre for their mass marketing.

Just because they are cynical twits, doesn't mean they haven't already caused a great deal of harm and will cause more.

SO I guess we're close to agereement. Yes?

Looks to me like these far right christian zealots voted 'no on Jesus' years ago. Jesus would likely turn over more than just the tables at these idiots places of worship.

Got a spare $50? You can be a D.D. too, courtesy of the Universal Life Church.

Now that I think about it, my mother should be called Doctor Of Divinity. She makes great white fudge. Eat enough of that stuff, and in no time you'll be LOOKING like Falwell, too!

24. It's time the Fall-wells and Rob-ers-ons get a new name for their God.
I propose they call him Gawd! It's because leftwing Christians like me don't want our God who loves gays and believes in womens rights, to be confused with their Gawd who hates everyone.

I guess I should write my first letter to mr Fall-well...
