Religious conversion redefined nominee's worldview
Edited on Wed Oct-05-05 08:37 AM by MassDemm
Late Sunday night, the Rev. Ron Key and his wife, Kaycia, got a mysterious phone call from longtime friend Harriet Miers.
"She talked with my wife and asked us to pray for her," the 57-year-old Dallas pastor said. "She said, 'You know, I cannot tell you why, but please pray for me.'
"Harriet is like that. She is very careful about doing the right thing. Of course, I did pray for her, and the next morning woke up to find out with the rest of the nation that she had been nominated for the Supreme Court."
While the rest of the country debates the merits of Miss Miers' judicial qualifications, her Christian friends and confidants says she is a solid believer who, like President Bush, had a religious conversion in her 30s.

The interesting part is on page two of the article, where it is told she left the Valley View Church just three weeks ago along with Mr. Keys, who had a disagreement about leadership.

1. Religious conversions are a handy thing to have
Were I to re-enter politics the firstest thing I would do is get one a them there borned again religious conversions that are far more gooder than common sense.

And they are free too.

3. Just pray that the truth comes out for America, Ms. Miers
That's all anybody really needs here.

That the truth -- about you and Bush -- come out before America takes an irrovocable turn to becoming a Religio-Fascist-Corporate State, with no regard for the proles (AKA in Repub-Speak: Consumer-Citizen Units)

I posted last night in GD about a Seattle-Times article about Miers that mentioned in passing that she had recently left VVCC with her pastor to found a new church.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=4970244&mesg_id=4970244

The implication of the S-T article was that she had helped to found the new church with Key. I was looking for some corroboration on this, but GD was moving pretty fast, as usual.

I'd like to know if she & Key left VVCC because it was too conservative, or was it not conservative enough? I'm pretty sure I know the answer to that, LOL, but I gotta ask! Normally I wouldn't care about someone's personal religious beliefs, but this is a person who will certainly do all that she can to codify her personal religious beliefs into law, so it is definitely very much my business.

I don't like mystery meat, nor do I like mystery candidates.

EDITED TO ADD: Miers' and Key's new church has no name yet. Perhaps we could assist them with naming it?

7. The news is not the first four paragraphs. If you take the time
to read the article, you will find on the second page, what I posted, is that Miers quit that church three weeks ago.

8. So, bascially, he's appointed The Church Lady.
Isn't that special.

Not completely unrelatedly, Rush Limbaugh used to ridicule Ginsberg as "Ruth Buzzi".

12. First Church of Mannon. (sp?)
Aren't all Republicans?

You know that church: it's the one where a lot of the sacred art
depicts camels miraculously passing through the eyes of *VERY LARGE*
needles and such like.

13. I recall when he first proposed her, Bush mentioned her "heart"
He said something like, "I know her heart". That is religious code talk for "she's a fundie, or will at least act like one in the important matters".

For others, like Putin, the best he can do is look into their eyes and see their soul. That's religious code talk for "I am a loon".
