DeLay to serve as GOP adviser
http://www.suntimes.com/output/elect/cst-nws-delay30.html

Indicted Texas Rep. Tom DeLay will serve as a ''very powerful adviser'' to the Republican leadership while he battles the conspiracy charge that forced him to step aside as House majority leader, a GOP spokesman said Thursday.

''His experience and insight for over a decade of the Republican majority is invaluable to our leadership and to our members and will be used wisely,'' said Ron Bonjean, spokesman for Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.).

Bonjean said Hastert and DeLay -- two longtime allies -- met privately in the Capitol one day after the Texan was charged with a single count of conspiracy by a Texas grand jury investigating alleged violations of state election law.

One of their number who is being charged with conspiracy is being asked to advise the rest.

Un freaking believable.

49. Oh, it will stay quiet..
Do you think Americans are ever going to get the truth behind this rotten political party?

From CNN.COM:

Tim Berry, who was DeLay's chief of staff, reported Thursday for his last day of work. A powerful player in almost all things DeLay, Berry had been planning to leave Capitol Hill before Wednesday's indictment, having accepted a job as a lobbyist for Time Warner, Inc., the parent company of CNN.

30. In otherwords, while he had to physically move out of the office
of Majority Leader - he is still going to call of the shots. THat explains the move to Blunt vs Drier. If he weren't calling the shots, the weaker, lower profile Drier was preferable; however, if Blunt agrees to be DeLay's mouthpiece - and knowing he can play the game like DeLay (better enforcer due to the same $$$ access), better stand in.

35. "DeLay cast his indictment as the work of a partisan prosecutor"
Fuckin' crybaby. I guess technically that's correct, but Ronnie Earle has prosecuted four times as many Democrats as Republicans (12 Democrats, 3 Republicans, ftr), so if he's partisan, he's partisan in the Republicans' favor.

38. Techincally, he could still serve as the majority leader....
That position is a party position and the party decides which rules they will use in determing the scope of any of the jobs in the leadership position...

So, I doubt if he is being paid....

what this is saying is Delay is still in charge even though he no longer carries the title, Majority Leader.....

42. The Elephant's Graveyard
Edited on Sat Oct-01-05 05:07 PM by PATRICK
Dragging their expensive ivory tusks into the dirt, the hulking carcasses make their way to secret location, safe from poachers and carrion beasts...

Of course that is romantic legend. But in the GOP, no failed pol, no criminal stooge, no disgraced schlemiel will lack for a consulting job, several panel committee seats, several board memberships, many radio and TV appearances(maybe a show of their own!)frequent highly paid speeches and political wet work assignments behind the scenes. They will write books through invisible ghost writers, plan the agenda of the future from the perspective of their failures in the past. They will hold hands with the young wolves as instantly respected "elders", as martyrs and heroes whose vindication will be revenge upon America.

I am not sure this communal clique has a graveyard except for someone who has LOST, has failed so badly he has managed to bring down his gang with him. As Nixon, one of the founders of this incestuous support group who made the mistake of both failing and not believing sincerely enough in the fairy tales covering over the lies of conservatism. You need dummies and brain damaged goods for that- and fanatics and simpler crooks- and these people do not wander off alone into the sunset.

They know too much. And it is not healthy to start disposing of people in your club who are pretty much like everyone else.

So like any close-knit communistic pack mind, they just move around. Someone else will be assigned the privilege of first jaws in for the kill.

Take a look at any off the think tanks and boardrooms and issue groups and you will see the old jokes home of the GOP leadership, not one abandoned to the wolves, not one chip of ivory let go to the hunters who miss their quarry in plain sight.

And the riches laden hoard lumbers on.
